Warrego Highway
The Warrego Highway is located in southern Queensland, Australia. It connects coastal centres to the south western areas of the state, and is approximately 715 km in length. It takes its name from the Warrego River, which is the endpoint of the highway. The entire highway is part of the National Highway system linking Darwin and Brisbane: formerly National Highway 54, Queensland began to convert to the alphanumeric system much of Australia had adopted in the early-2000s and this road is now designated as National Highway A2. Route description The highway commences at the end of the M2 Ipswich Motorway, near Ipswich and runs to Helidon Spa, at the foot of the Great Dividing Range. Fernside is a heritage-listed villa at 4-6 Fernside Street, East Toowoomba, Toowoomba, Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from to . It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History Fernside, a low symmetrical brick building, was built for John Alexander Boyce who arrived in Toowoomba from Brisbane in August 1870. From the mid-1870s, JA Boyce accumulated land around what are now Fernside, Arthur and Curzon Streets, including the transferral of two acres on 1 July 1876 and a further two acres on 20 August 1877. JA Boyce was Clerk of Petty Sessions in Toowoomba from 1870 until at least 1893. In 1895, Boyce was appointed relieving Police Magistrate in Winton and in 1896 was stationed at Thargomindah and Muttaburra. Whyembah is a heritage-listed detached house at 80 Campbell Street, East Toowoomba, Toowoomba, Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built , and renovated and enlarged in 1906. It is sometimes spelled differently, e.g. Wyembar. The ''Darling Downs Gazette'' was a newspaper published from 1848 to 1922 in Drayton and Toowoomba in Queensland, Australia. History ''The Darling Downs Gazette and General Advertiser'' was founded in 1858 by Arthur Sidney Lyon. The first issue of four pages was published on Thursday 10 June 1858 from ''Willow Cottage'', a wooden shanty, in Drayton. After two years, it was purchased by W. H. Byers. Later, William Henry Traill was the proprietor for a brief period. While Drayton, being established in 1842, was the first substantial settlement on the Darling Downs, by the 1860s it was clear that it would be overtaken by nearby Toowoomba in size and importance, leading to Byers relocating the Darling Downs Gazette to Toowoomba in 1861. James Duhig
Sir James Duhig KCMG (2 September 187110 April 1965) was an Irish-born Australian Roman Catholic religious leader. He was the Archbishop of Brisbane for 48 years from 1917 until his death in 1965. At the time of his death he was the longest-serving bishop in the Catholic Church (1905–1965). Early years Duhig was born in Broadford, County Limerick but emigrated with his family to Australia as a young boy. He completed his education at St. Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace, Queensland. Newtown is a residential locality in Toowoomba in the Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Newtown had a population of 10,039 people. Geography Newtown is located immediately west of the Toowoomba city centre. The eastern end of the Gore Highway starts at an intersection with the Warrego Highway in Newtown. History The area was the first outside the city centre to be subdivided for residential purposes in 1865.
