East Mills Community School District
East Mills Community School District or East Mills Schools is a rural public school district headquartered in Hastings, Iowa, United States. The district is mostly in Mills County, with small portions in Montgomery County. It serves the communities of Hastings, Emerson, Henderson, and Malvern. History East Mills Schools officially formed on July 1, 2011, from the merger of the Malvern Community School District and the Nishna Valley Community School District. Voters in both districts approved the consolidation on a 6 to 1 basis in 2010; 19.2% of the registered voters in the districts, a total of 483 people, participated in that election. The merger actually took place years earlier with the first class of East Mills graduating May 2008. The merger occurred to help both struggling districts combine assets and resources. Malvern, Iowa
Malvern is a city in Mills County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,046 at the time of the 2020 census. The Wabash Trace—a railroad converted to a bicycle trail—passes through Malvern. The Mills County Fair is held here, although Glenwood is the county seat. Malvern is the largest town in the eastern half of the county. History The pioneer village of Milton was established in the fall of 1869. It was later renamed Malvern when it was discovered that there was already another Milton, Iowa. Jefferson is a city in, and the county seat of Greene County, Iowa, United States, along the Raccoon River, North Raccoon River. Nishna Valley Community School District was a school district headquartered in Hastings, Iowa. In its final days it operated Nishna Valley Elementary School and East Mills Middle School. It formed on July 1, 1960. It went into a legal dispute with the Malvern Community School District over the possession of portions of the former Benton, Golden Hill, and Wearin school districts. Circa 2007 it began a ''whole grade-sharing'' arrangement with the Malvern district in which children from both districts attended each other's schools in order to save money.
