The East Kerry Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association caters for 13 Gaelic football clubs and 1 hurling club in the East Kerry division of the GAA county of Kerry. History Early Years The East Kerry Board was founded in 1925 following a decision to sub-divide Kerry into a number of divisions. The first chairman and secretary were football legends Dick Fitzgerald and Paul Russell. The first meeting of the new Board was attended by delegates from eight clubs; Currow, Farranfore, Firies, Headford, Kenmare, Killarney, Kilcummin and Killorglin. In 1931, Ballymacelligott, Cordal, Currow, Farranfore and Scartaglin broke away from the Division and joined with Castleisland to form the Castleisland District League. In 1947, Laune Rangers, Castlemaine, Milltown, Tuogh and Glenbeigh broke away with Beaufort to form the Mid Kerry League. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Austin Stacks GAA
Austin Stacks is a hurling and Gaelic football club based in Tralee in County Kerry, Ireland. Founded in 1917, the club has more All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medals and GAA All-Stars than any other Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in Ireland. History Origins Founded in 1917, the club is named after Austin Stack, Irish revolutionary and captain of the All-Ireland winning Kerry Gaelic football team of 1904. Kerry Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Kerry Intermediate Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by mid-tier Kerry GAA clubs. Kilgarvan are the title holders (2022). Extra-time can be used to determine the winners of games. Honours The winners play in the Munster Junior Club Hurling Championship, such as Kilgarvan in 2018, and if successful there, can represent the province in the All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship. Unlike in other counties, the winning team is not automatically promoted to the senior grade after winning. Since Kerry has very few hurling clubs, many of the competing teams are second teams of clubs competing in the Kerry Senior Hurling Championship. Kilmoyley were also one of the current Munster finalists which they were in January 2022. They won that game to become the first Kerry club to a Munster intermediate title. Kerry Senior Hurling Championship
The Kerry Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as Garvey's SuperValu Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1889 for the top hurling teams in the county of Kerry in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer months, with the county final currently being played in Austin Stack Park in August. Initially played a knock-out competition, the championship currently uses a double elimination format whereby each team is guaranteed at least two games. The 2020 championship reverted to a straight knock-out format due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Kerry County Championship is an integral part of the wider Munster Intermediate Club Hurling Championship. Spa GAA is a Gaelic football club based in Tullig, Killarney in County Kerry, Ireland. Founded in 1948, the club gets its name from a spa well in the townland of Tullig close to Killarney. The club won the Munster Intermediate Club Football Championship in 2009. History The club gets its name from the Spa Well, a source of water with reputed health giving properties, which is situated on the road side in the townland of Tullig, approximately three miles from Killarney town centre. The well was popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, when the people of Killarney often took the mineral-rich water as a cure for various ailments. Killarney Legion GAA
Killarney Legion are a Gaelic Athletic Association club from Killarney in County Kerry, Ireland. The club was founded on a March evening in 1929 when a group of eleven men held a meeting in the then Temperance Hall in High Street, Killarney. History In the Kerry Senior Football Championship, Legion reached the 3rd round by beating John Mitchels of Tralee 0-16 to 1-6, then losing to rivals Dr. Crokes 1-16 to 0-9. Legion now have a new state of the art clubhouse and have just commenced the development of a stand aligning the southern side of the main pitch. The stature of the juvenile section of the club is at an all-time high at present. Gneeveguilla are a Gaelic football team from County Kerry, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. They play in the Kerry Intermediate Football Championship, Kerry County Football League (Division 1) and the East Kerry Senior Football Championship. The club was founded in 1960. Dr Crokes is a Gaelic football and hurling club based in Killarney in County Kerry, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Notable players include Colm Cooper. Ballyduff G.A.A. is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Ballyduff, Co Kerry, Ireland. The club fields both Hurling and Gaelic football teams.
