The European Hockey Federation is a European sports federation for field hockey, based in Brussels. It is the umbrella organisation for all European national federations, and organises the Euro Hockey League. Marijke Fleuren was elected president on 22 August 2011. In reaction to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the European Hockey Federation banned the participation of all Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials from all events sanctioned by the Federation. Field Hockey At The 1968 Summer Olympics
The men's field hockey tournament at the 1968 Summer Olympics was the 11th edition of the field hockey event for men at the Summer Olympics. It took place over a fourteen-day period beginning on 13 October, and culminated with the medal finals on 26 October. All games were played at the Municipal Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico. Pakistan won the gold medal for the second time after defeating Australia 2–1 in the final. Defending champions India won the bronze medal after defeating West Germany 2–1. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. Field hockey was introduced at the Olympic Games as a men's competition at the 1908 Summer Olympics, 1908 Games in London, with six teams, four from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and other two were France and Germany. Field Hockey At The Friendship Games
Field hockey at the Friendship Games was contested in two events. Men's event took place at the Dynamo Stadium (Moscow), Minor Arena of the Central Dynamo Stadium in Moscow, Soviet Union between 18 and 26 August 1984. Women's event took place in Poznań, People's Republic of Poland, Poland between 28 and 30 August 1984. Men's event Eight teams were drawn into two groups.
