Earphoria
''Earphoria'' is a live album by American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins. It is the soundtrack of the band's '' Vieuphoria'' video. While the video has been widely available since its initial release, the CD was initially released as a limited number (under 1000) of promo copies in 1994, and was subsequently heavily bootlegged.Dahlen, Chris. Smashing Pumpkins: Earphoria: Pitchfork Record Review". 2002–12–12. Accessed on 2007–12–30. In 2002, ''Vieuphoria'' was reissued on DVD and ''Earphoria'' finally earned a commercial release. The CD contains the audio for all the performances in ''Vieuphoria'', and includes extended versions of the music used in the video interludes. An exception is the performance of "Silverfuck" – ''Earphoria'' includes the tease of " Over the Rainbow" while ''Vieuphoria'' edits it out, possibly owing to prohibitive licensing costs. Critical reception "While a live document of the Pumpkins' farewell tour would have been very palatabl ...

Today (The Smashing Pumpkins Song)
"Today" is a song by American alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins, written by lead vocalist and guitarist Billy Corgan. The song, though seemingly upbeat, contains dark lyrics; Corgan wrote the song about a day in which he was having suicidal thoughts. The contrast between the grim subject matter of the song and the soft instrumental part during the verses, coupled with use of irony in the lyrics, left many listeners unaware of the song's tale of depression and desperation. The song alternates between quiet, dreamy verses and loud choruses with layered, distorted guitar. "Today" was released in September 1993 as the second single from the band's second album and major label debut, ''Siamese Dream''. Although Corgan opted for "Cherub Rock", the lead single from the album, to be the opening track, "Today" and its follow-up "Disarm" are credited in AllMusic for popularizing the band and "sening 'Siamese Dream''into the stratosphere". "Today" has been generally well receiv ...

The Smashing Pumpkins
The Smashing Pumpkins (also referred to as simply Smashing Pumpkins) are an American alternative rock band from Chicago. Formed in 1988 by frontman and guitarist Billy Corgan, bassist D'arcy Wretzky, guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, the band has undergone several line-up changes since their reunion in 2006, with Corgan being the sole constant member since its inception. The current lineup features Corgan, Chamberlin, Iha and guitarist Jeff Schroeder. Disavowing the punk rock roots of many of their contemporaries, they have a diverse, densely-layered sound, containing elements of gothic rock, heavy metal, dream pop, psychedelic rock, progressive rock, shoegaze, and electronica in later recordings. Corgan is the group's primary composer; his musical versatility and cathartic lyrics have shaped the band's distinctive albums, which one writer described as "anguished, bruised reports from Billy Corgan's nightmare-land". With 30 million albums sold worldwide ...

Cherub Rock
"Cherub Rock" is a song by American alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins. It is the first single from their second album, ''Siamese Dream'' (1993) and is the opening track. It was written by lead vocalist and guitarist Billy Corgan. It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. Composition "Cherub Rock" was one of the last songs written for the album, and the lyrics relate to Corgan's relationship with his perception of the indie rock community and larger media. The song was performed in standard tuning with an E octave played at the 7th fret, a technique which the band used on other songs, such as "Drown", "Tristessa", and "Starla". Corgan describes this as the "Pumpkin Chord", saying "We basically stole that from Jimi Hendrix. But Jimi Hendrix probably stole it from Wes Montgomery." The prominent effect on the solo was achieved by recording the guitar solo to two different tapes which were then run simultaneously, with the speed of one tape slig ...

London Astoria
The London Astoria was a music venue at 157 Charing Cross Road, in London, England. Originally a warehouse during the 1920s, the building became a cinema and ballroom. It was converted for use as a theatre in the 1970s. After further development, the building re-opened in the mid-1980s, as a night club and live music venue for well-known musical acts. There are half a dozen clubs and smaller music venues in the adjacent buildings. In 2009 the venue closed, and was demolished as part of the development plans of the Crossrail project. The venue is still seen today as having been an iconic music establishment, as it helped to launch the careers of many British rock bands and also played a part in the UK success of many international acts. History The Astoria was built on the site of a former Crosse & Blackwell warehouse and opened in 1927 as a cinema. It was designed by Edward A. Stone, who also designed subsequent Astoria venues at Brixton (now the Brixton Academy), Old Kent Ro ...

Rotten Apples
''Rotten Apples'' (''The Smashing Pumpkins – Greatest Hits'' as titled on the album's cover) is a greatest hits compilation album by alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins. In the US, it was released on November 20, 2001, along with a bonus disc titled ''Judas O''. The album's concluding track, "Untitled", was the Pumpkins' final recording before their breakup. Completed in the days leading up to the band's farewell concert at the Metro in Chicago, it was also released as a single. Another notable track is "Real Love"; while previously released on ''Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music'', this was taken from the factory master tapes and, as a result, lacks the pops and clicks inherent in all copies of ''Machina II'' (which is vinyl sourced). The title of the album is the namesake of a B-side that was released on the " Tonight, Tonight" single. Peaking at number 31 in the US, the album sold 77,000 units in its first week of being released. Release and recepti ...

Zeitgeist (The Smashing Pumpkins Album)
''Zeitgeist'' is the seventh studio album by American rock band the Smashing Pumpkins, released on July 10, 2007 on Martha's Music and Reprise Records. Recorded solely by returning band members Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin, the album was the band's first since reuniting in 2006, and was produced by Roy Thomas Baker and Terry Date, alongside Corgan and Chamberlin themselves. Preceded by the single, "Tarantula", the album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, but sales soon decreased, and critical reception was mixed. It was certified Gold in the United States on February 1, 2008. To tour in support of the release, Corgan and Chamberlin recruited touring members, Jeff Schroeder (guitar), Ginger Reyes (bass) and Lisa Harriton (keyboards), with Schroeder eventually becoming a core member of the band. The album was the last to feature Chamberlin until 2018's '' Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun.'' Background After the Smashing Pumpkins disba ...

I Am One
"I Am One" is the debut single by American alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins. It was the band's first ever release and remains the only single issued by the band with co-writing credits to both Billy Corgan and James Iha. It charted on the UK Singles Chart at a peak position of number 73. Two recordings of the song were released. One was recorded in 1990 and was the Pumpkins' first release and first on Limited Potential. This recording was financed with the money from Corgan's college tuition fund left by his grandmother. "I Am One" was re-recorded for ''Gish'' and a new single was released on Caroline Records and Hut Recordings. Corgan later stated his regret with not re-working the song for ''Gish'', as the two versions are nearly identical. A video for the song was also filmed, but never released (until 2001) due to the band being unhappy with the result. Footage from the video was instead used on the long form video, ''Vieuphoria'', the long version of the music v ...
