Earle Rafuse
Earle Albert Rafuse (October 16, 1930 – January 17, 1998) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral districts of Annapolis East and Annapolis in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1988 to 1998. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party. Rafuse was born in Middleton, Nova Scotia. He was a wholesale food distributor. Rafuse entered provincial politics in the 1988 election, winning the Annapolis East riding. Greg Kerr
John Gregory Kerr (born October 8, 1947) is a Canadian politician. He was the Member of Parliament for West Nova from 2008 to 2015 and a member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1978 to 1993. Early life and education Born in Annapolis Royal, he graduated from Annapolis Royal Regional Academy. He then graduated from Mount Allison University with a B.A. and B.Ed. After graduation, he taught at Bridgetown Regional High School. Political career He represented Annapolis West in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1978 to 1993 as a Progressive Conservative member. Kerr served in the Executive Council of Nova Scotia as Minister of Culture, Recreation and Fitness from 1980 to 1981, as Minister of the Environment from 1981 to 1983, as Minister of Finance from 1983 to 1993, as Minister of Housing from 1988 to 1989 and as Minister of Tourism and Culture from 1992 to 1993. Port George, Nova Scotia
Port George is a seaside community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in Annapolis County. It is a former port situated on the Bay of Fundy, 11 km north of Middleton, Nova Scotia just across North Mountain (Nova Scotia). It sits on the 45th parallel north. At one time Port George had a shipyard and carried on a good volume of sea trade in timber and agricultural produce with Boston and Saint John, New Brunswick. It was also a fishing port. Joshua Slocum, the first solo circumnavigator, who was born and grew up in nearby Mount Hanley, sailed schooners out of Port George and Cottage Cove. The original name given to the area by the native Mi'Kmaq was Kulwaqwapsku'jk, meaning "Little Hooded Seal Rock". Middleton, Nova Scotia
Middleton is a town in Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Situated on the north bank of the Annapolis River, it is located close to the centre of the Annapolis Valley, from which it gets its nickname, "The Heart of the Valley". History Where the Annapolis River and the Nictaux river meet was a popular shad fishing spot for Mi'kmaq families before the arrival of the European settlers. It would be later settled by French Acadians that used these waterways to reach the capital of Port-Royal and farming. In the late 1750s the region was settled by New England Planters, and Loyalists to replace the ousted French Acadians. Nova Scotia Liberal Party
The Nova Scotia Liberal Party is a centrist provincial political party in Nova Scotia, Canada and the provincial section of the Liberal Party of Canada. The party currently forms the Official Opposition in Nova Scotia, under the leadership of Zach Churchill. The party was in power most recently from the 2013 election until the 2021 election. Origins The party is descended from the pre-Confederation Reformers in Nova Scotia who coalesced around Joseph Howe demanding the institution of responsible government. Gerry Sheehy
Gerald Earle Sheehy (June 24, 1924 – June 1, 2009) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Annapolis East in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1970 to 1988. He was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. Early life and education Born in 1924 at Noel, Hants County, Nova Scotia, Sheehy graduated from the University of Toronto and was a veterinarian by career. Political career He entered politics in 1965 as a town councillor and deputy mayor in Middleton, Nova Scotia. Sheehy moved to provincial politics in 1970, when he was elected MLA for Annapolis East. He was re-elected in the 1974 election. Sheehy was re-elected by almost 1400 votes in the 1978 election, that resulted in a majority government for the Progressive Conservatives led by John Buchanan.
