Earl Morris (basketball Coach)
Earl Morris (born October 7, 1933) is a retired Morgan County, Alabama high school basketball coach. His career spanned over 30 years. Coaching career Morris's teams compiled a 590-250 record with three consecutive Alabama state championships 1957-1958-1959 at Austinville, and one at Decatur in 1970. His teams, known for their disciplined, fundamentally sound, team concept, won numerous county, district and region titles while averaging 20 wins per year. He received state, national, and international recognition for his coaching skills including admission into the ASHAA Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Decatur High School gymnasium named in recognition of him, making it the Earl Morris Gymnasium. Somerville is a town in Morgan County, Alabama, United States. It is included in the Decatur Metropolitan Area and the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. As of the 2020 census, the population of the town was 796. History Somerville was the county seat of Morgan County from 1818 to 1891, when the seat was moved to Decatur. The town was named for Robert M. Summerville, an officer killed in 1814 during the Creek War. Morgan County is a county in the north central part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, its population was 123,421. The county seat is Decatur. Decatur High School (Alabama)
Decatur High School is a public high school in Decatur, Alabama, United States. It is one of two high schools in the Decatur City School District. Decatur High offers technical, academic, and Advanced Placement (AP) programs, as well as dual enrollment with the John C. Calhoun Community College System. Decatur High, along with southwestern Decatur's Austin High School, were the first International Baccalaureate schools in Alabama north of Birmingham. Starting in the 2017-2018 school year, Decatur High will no longer continue the IB program. In 2018, the Decatur City Schools, in a massive realignment of school districting, opened a new DHS campus across Somerville Road Southeast from its location of several decades on Prospect Drive. Jacksonville State University (JSU) is a public university in Jacksonville, Alabama. Founded in 1883, Jacksonville State offers programs of study in six academic schools leading to bachelor's degree, bachelor's, master's degree, master's, education specialist, and doctorate degrees in addition to certificate programs and continuing education opportunities. In the Fall semester of 2011, JSU began offering the school's first doctoral degree, Doctor of Science in Emergency Management. In 2016, the university gained approval to offer its second doctorate, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree.
