Eamonn Loughran
Eamonn Loughran (born 5 June 1970) is an Irish former professional boxer who competed from 1987 to 1996. He held the WBO welterweight title from 1993 to 1996, successfully defending the title five times. At regional level he held the Commonwealth welterweight title from 1992 to 1993. Amateur career As an amateur, Loughran boxed for Ireland and won a silver medal at the 1987 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Havana, Cuba defeating the Cuban and American fighters on the way to the final. Loughran then turned professional later that year. Professional career Loughran fought out of the Breen Gym in Belfast and, in December 1987, fought his first professional fight at the Ulster Hall, Belfast, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, in which he beat Glaswegian Adam Muir on a card that included Dave "Boy" McAuley and Andy Holligan. Welterweight is a weight class in combat sports. Originally the term "welterweight" was used only in boxing, but other combat sports like Muay Thai, taekwondo, and mixed martial arts also use it for their own weight division system to classify the opponents. Gert Bo Jacobsen (born 28 December 1961) is a Danish former professional boxer who competed between 1982 and 1995. He held the WBO welterweight title from February to October 1993. Professional career Jacobsen's greatest fights were against Manning Galloway which were all fought in Randers Hallen, Randers, Denmark. The first fight, Jacobsen lost due to a corner retirement, the second fight was a no contest, but Jacobsen finally won the WBO welterweight title from Galloway in the 3rd fight by a decision. Jose Luis Lopez (born May 28, 1973) is a Mexican former professional boxer. Professional career Lopez turned pro at the age of 15 in 1989 when he defeated Raul Contreras. Handpicked as an "easy" opponent against then champion Eamonn Loughran in 1996, he knocked down the WBO Welterweight Champion three times and ended up winning by KO in the first round. After a win over Luis Ramon Campas, he relinquished the title. He then defeated former welterweight champion Jorge Vaca by technical knockout, and on June 7, 1997, he defeated another former welterweight champion Aaron Davis by decision. Light welterweight, also known as junior welterweight or super lightweight, is a weight class in combat sports. Boxing Professional boxing In professional boxing, light welterweight is contested between the lightweight and welterweight divisions, in which boxers weigh above 61.2kg or 135 pounds and up to 63.5 kg or 140 pounds.
