Cyprus Basketball Division A
The Cypriot Basketball Division A is currently the top-tier level men's professional basketball competition of the Cypriot basketball league system. It is run and governed by the Cyprus Basketball Federation. Format At present, six clubs compete in the league. Since the 2016–17 season, the six teams play each other four times during the regular season, with the top 4 teams reaching the play-off semi-finals stage. One team (the last one) at the end of the season is relegated to the second division, whilst one team from the second division is promoted. The play-off semi-finals and the championship winner will be decided after three wins. The championship winner, along with the winners of the Cypriot Cup, will qualify to compete in the next season's FIBA's European-wide continental competitions. FIBA Europe Cup
The FIBA Europe Cup (FEC) is an annual professional club basketball competition organised by FIBA for eligible European clubs. It is FIBA's European-wide second level. Clubs mainly qualify for the competition based on their performance in national leagues and cup competitions, although this is not the sole deciding factor. The league was founded in 2015 as a replacement of the FIBA EuroChallenge. History On June 30, 2015, FIBA announced it would start a new league to compete with Euroleague Basketball's EuroCup. The new competition, which replaced EuroChallenge, was supposed to be open for up to 100 teams to enter. The first FIBA Europe Cup game was played on October 21, 2015, when Donar Groningen beat Egis Körmend 78–71. Engomi
Engomi ( el, Έγκωμη tr, Engomi or Enkomi) is a suburb and municipality of the Cypriot capital Nicosia. In 2011, it had a population of 18,010. Of these, 14,254 were citizens of Cyprus. It is a mainly residential neighbourhood with many large villas. It also includes a very important annexe to the powerful Monastery of Our Lady Eleousa. The University of Nicosia is also located within the municipality and thus is home to a large student population. Engomi has a large diplomatic presence. The Cypriot Basketball Cup is an annual professional basketball national cup competition, organized by the Cyprus Basketball Federation since 1969. Format Starting in 2007, the Cypriot Cup competition's format changed to where only teams from the Cyprus Basketball Division A, Cypriot A Division compete at the cup. The cup employs a knock-out stage and a final four format. The Cup's winner automatically qualifies to compete in the next season of the FIBA Europe Cup competition. Reggie Redding (born July 18, 1988) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball at Villanova University. Professional career After going undrafted in the 2010 NBA draft, Redding signed with ETHA Engomis of the Cypriot League for the 2010–11 season. In July 2011, he signed a one-year deal with Tigers Tübingen of the German Basketball Bundesliga. He later resigned with them for one more season. Alex Wesby (born July 5, 1980) is an American retired basketball player from Philadelphia. He played for Temple in college and played as a professional player in multiple countries in Europe. Career In the 2010–11 season, Wesby played in Sweden for Sundsvall Dragons. He won the Most Valuable Player award of the Swedish League, as well as the award for the Best Defender. Michael Antonio "Mike" King
Michael Antonio King (born March 26, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player. College career King played collegiate for The George Washington University. He attended Lake Clifton High School in Baltimore, Maryland, where he won a Maryland 4A state championship as a sophomore. He then had Lake Clifton High School ranked 11th in the nation as a senior. He was a High School All-American Honorable Mention. As a 6' 4" combo guard, King was named to the Atlantic 10 All Rookie Team in 1998.
