EMMA (magazine)
''EMMA'' is a German feminist magazine. Its print edition is published every two months in Cologne, Germany. History and profile The first issue of ''EMMA'' was published on 26 January 1977. The founder of the magazine was Alice Schwarzer, who is still publisher and editor-in-chief. The magazine was modelled on the American magazine ''Ms.'' in terms of content, targeted audience and layout. It has its headquarters in Cologne. In December 2002, the ''EMMA'' website was launched. The name of the magazine is a wordplay of the term ''emancipation'' (). Since its foundation, ''EMMA'' has been the leading feminist magazine in Germany, and the only political magazine in Europe entirely run by women. The magazine has often been criticised for its opinionated and activist stance. However, it has affected German society, creating awareness for and instigating debates on social and women's issues. Romy Schneider
Romy Schneider (; born Rosemarie Magdalena Albach; 23 September 1938 – 29 May 1982) was a German-French actress. She began her career in the German genre in the early 1950s when she was 15. From 1955 to 1957, she played the central character of Empress Elisabeth of Austria in the Austrian '' Sissi'' trilogy, and later reprised the role in a more mature version in Luchino Visconti's '' Ludwig'' (1973). Reinhard Friedrich Michael Mey (born 21 December 1942) is a German "Liedermacher" (literally "songmaker", a German-style singer-songwriter). In France he is known as ''Frédérik Mey''. By 2009, Mey had released 27 German albums, and generally releases a new album approximately every two years; his first album was ''Ich wollte wie Orpheus singen'' (1967); the most recent studio album is ''Das Haus an der Ampel'' (2020). His biggest success to date was ''Mein Achtel Lorbeerblatt'' (1972). His most famous song by far is "Über den Wolken" (1974), which has been covered by numerous German artists. Mey is known to embark upon an extensive concert tour every two or three years, with a live album released from each tour. Ranganathan Gregoire Yogeshwar (born 18 May 1959) is a Luxembourgish physicist and science journalist based in Germany. He started gaining attention at the end of the 1980s in the German-speaking area for his science documentaries that were often coupled with critical analysis and prognoses of the societal effects of research in the natural sciences. Early life and education Yogeshwar grew up in Bangalore, India and Luxembourg and went to primary school in both places. His father is an Indian engineer and his mother a Luxembourgish art historian. Martin Walser (; born 24 March 1927) is a German writer. Life Walser was born in Wasserburg am Bodensee, on Lake Constance. His parents were coal merchants, and they also kept an inn next to the train station in Wasserburg. He described the environment in which he grew up in his novel ''Ein springender Brunnen'' (English: A Gushing Fountain).
