Eyðgunn Jana Samuelsen (née Henriksen, 23 May 1959 in Sørvágur) is a Faroese teacher and politician ( Social Democratic Party (Javnaðarflokkurin)). Background Samuelsen graduated from her lower secondary school in Sørvágs skúli in 1976 and graduated from her high school (HF) Føroya Studentaskúli og HF-Skeið in 1978. Annika Olsen
Annika Olsen (born 13 March 1975, in Tórshavn, grew up in Vágur) is a Faroese politician, high school teacher and former swimmer. She was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs in the Faroe Islands (2011–15) and Minister of Internal Affairs from 2008 to 2011 representing the People's Party (Faroe Islands). Before that she was a member of the City Council of Tórshavn from 2004 to 2008. Annika Olsen has an MA in Nordic languages and literature with a supplementary subject in religion. She is the daughter of Jákup Olsen, a businessman, former politician and former headmaster of Vágur's School and Marna Olsen, born Holm, a retired teacher. Løgting
The Løgting (pronounced ; da, Lagtinget) is the unicameral parliament of the Faroe Islands, an autonomous territory within the Danish Realm. The name literally means "''Law Thing''"—that is, a law assembly—and derives from Old Norse ''lǫgþing'', which was a name given to ancient assemblies. A ''ting'' or ''þing'' has existed on the Faroe Islands for over a millennium and the Løgting was the highest authority on the islands in the Viking era. From 1274 to 1816 it functioned primarily as a judicial body, whereas the modern Løgting established in 1852 is a parliamentary assembly, which gained legislative power when home rule was introduced in 1948. The Manx Tynwald and the Icelandic Alþing are the two other modern parliaments with ties back to the old Norse assemblies of Europe. Sørvágur
:''There is also a town called Vágur on Suðuroy.'' Sørvágur ( da, Sørvåg) is a village on the island of Vágar in the Faroe Islands. It is located at the landward end of Sørvágsfjørður. Sørvágur is the largest village in Sørvágur Municipality. Name The name Sørvágur translates to "The Bay of Sør". While the second half of the name makes sense given the fact that the village is located at a bay, the first half is more mysterious. Legend has it that the first man to settle at this place was called 'Sørli' and hence the village was named in honour of him. Another explanation on the origin of 'Sør' comes from the old-Norse 'Seyr' which is a word for sand (seyr is also a word for foggy rain). Sørvágur has quite a large sandbeach in comparison with other Faroese villages and towns, and therefore it was speculated that the original name of Sørvágur was ''Seyrvágur'', and during the course of time, Seyrvágur became Sørvágur. The Social Democratic Party ( fo, Javnaðarflokkurin, lit=Equality Party, JF) is a social-democratic political party on the Faroe Islands, led by Aksel V. Johannesen. History The Social Democratic Party was founded on 25 September 1925 by members of Faroese trade unions. Its youth organization '' Sosialistiskt Ungmannafelag'' (Socialist Youth) was founded in 1965. At the 2004 general election on 20 January 2004, the party received 21.8% of the popular vote and therefore won 7 out of 33 seats in the Løgting. At the 2008 general election on 19 January 2008, the party received 19.3% of the popular vote and therefore won 6 out of 33 seats. Helena Dam á Neystabø (born 10 December 1955) is a Faroese Social Democratic politician. She has been served in the Lagting from 1990 to 2002, 2008 to 2011 and 2015 to 2019, has been a minister in three governments, and has been a member of the Tórshavn municipal council. Biography Neystabø grew up in Copenhagen as the daughter of seminar teacher Ása Hátún and Atli Dam, the Faroese Social Democratic Prime Minister. Her grandfather Peter Mohr Dam was also Prime Minister. Her parents divorced when she was nine years old, and she moved to the Faroe Islands with her mother when she was 13 years of age.
