Eye Bet
''Eye Bet'' was a Canadian television game show hosted by Jim Perry, which aired on CTV from 1972 to 1974. Perry's announcer, as with most Jim Perry game shows in Canada, was smooth-voiced CFTO-TV weatherman Dave Devall. The object of ''Eye Bet'' was for contestants to view old Hollywood movie clips, then answer questions about each clip, testing their skills of observation. This game show is similar to that of an ABC game show, '' The Reel Game'', hosted and produced by Jack Barry which was a weekly nighttime series that lasted for a little more than three months. Jim Perry (television Personality)
Jim Perry (November 9, 1933 – November 20, 2015) was an American-Canadian television game show host, singer, announcer, and performer in the 1970s and 1980s. Perry enjoyed success on both Canadian and American television. He was the host of the American game shows ''Card Sharks'' and '' $ale of the Century'', as well as the Canadian game shows ''Definition'' and '' Headline Hunters''. Perry was also the host of the Miss Canada pageant in the 1970s and 1980s. Early career Perry was born James Edward Dooley in Camden, New Jersey. His mother, Genevieve Perry, was a record-holding swimmer, as well as a known marathon dancer. His father, Edward Dooley, was a musician. While briefly attending Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, California, Perry was an outstanding basketball player thanks in part to his height (at 6'4" or 193 cm); he graduated in 1952. Dave Devall
David Devall (born 1931) is a Canadian retired broadcaster and meteorologist. He served as the chief forecaster at CFTO-TV in Toronto for more than 48 years beginning in 1961, and was recognized as having had the "longest career as a weather forecaster" by Guinness World Records and the World Records Academy upon his retirement on April 3, 2009. Devall was also a recipient of the RTNDA's lifetime achievement award in 2009. Early life and career Devall was born, raised, and educated in Toronto (graduate of York Memorial Collegiate in the old City of York). ''The Reel Game'' was an American game show that aired on Monday nights on ABC from January 18 to May 3, 1971. The series was hosted by Jack Barry and announced by Jack Clark. This show marked Barry's return to producing shows for national television after his 13-year hiatus from television after the quiz show scandals of the 1950s. Gameplay Three contestants competed in a quiz game in which the answers come from film clips. The contestants were given $250 to start, then they were given a subject after which they wagered any part of their current score (all wagers had to made in $25 increments). Once the bets were placed, host Barry posed a question, after which the contestants wrote down their answers. When the answers were written down, a film clip was shown to reveal the correct answer. Jack Barry (born Jack Barasch; March 20, 1918 – May 2, 1984) was an American game show host, television personality and executive who made a name for himself in the game show field. Barry served as host of several game shows in his career, many of which he developed along with Dan Enright as part of their joint operation Barry & Enright Productions. Barry's reputation became tarnished due to his involvement in the 1950s quiz show scandals and the ensuing fallout affected his career for over a decade.
