Expozine
Expozine is an annual small press, zine and comics fair in Montreal, Quebec. It is reported to be Canada's largest zine fair and one of the largest small press fairs in North America attracting some 270 exhibitors and 15,000 visitors each autumn. Expozine It was co-founded by Billy Mavreas and Louis Rastelli. It is organized by ARCMTL, an archive for publications, ephemera and audio-visual documents related to the history of Montreal and it's artistic, literary and counter-cultural scene. Throughout the years, the fair has showcased work from notable small press writers and publishers such as Invisible Books, ''Broken Pencil'', '' Maisonneuve'', ''New Escapologist'', Kate Beaton, and Drawn & Quarterly. Billy Mavreas
Billy Mavreas (born August 14, 1968) is a Canadian cartoonist and artist living in Montreal, Quebec, Canada whose mostly silent or wordless comics revolve around the themes of language, sexuality and spirituality. He is of Greek descent from the region of Mani. His posters, featuring otherworldly creatures, especially bunnies, influenced by the psychedelic art stylings of San Francisco artists such as Rick Griffin and Victor Moscoso, figured strongly in the Montreal literary and spoken word scene of the 1990s. Since 2004, Mavreas has been a regular cartoonist for ''ascent magazine'', a Canadian yoga magazine, and ''Matrix'' magazine, a literary review based in Montreal. Mavreas is also the editor of the comics anthology ''Monster Island'', acting as publisher of the first two issues, while the third issue was published by Conundrum Press. A cigarette machine is a vending machine that dispenses packs of cigarettes in exchange for payment. Many modern cigarette machines require customers to swipe an identification card to prevent persons under the legal smoking age from purchasing tobacco. Because of their potential for misuse by underage persons, many jurisdictions restrict where cigarette machines can be located or prohibit them altogether. Kate Beaton
Kathryn Moira Beaton (born 8 September 1983) is a Canadian comics artist best known as the creator of the comic strip ''Hark! A Vagrant'', which ran from 2007 to 2018. Her other major works include the children's books '' The Princess and the Pony'' and ''King Baby'', published in 2015 and 2016 respectively. The former was made into an Apple TV+ series called '' Pinecone & Pony'' released in 2022 on which Beaton worked as an executive producer. Also in 2022, Beaton released a memoir in graphic novel form, '' Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands'', about her experience working in the Alberta oil sands. ''Cult MTL'' is an English language arts, culture and news website and monthly print publication, based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Its first print edition appeared on 7 September 2012.
