Exidia Thuretiana
''Exidia thuretiana'' (common name white brain ) is a jelly fungus in the family Auriculariaceae. The fruit bodies are white and gelatinous with brain-like folds. It is a common, wood-rotting species in Europe, typically growing on dead attached or fallen branches of broadleaf trees, especially beech. Taxonomy The species was originally found growing on beech in France and was described in 1848 by Joseph-Henri Léveillé as ''Tremella thuretiana''. It was subsequently transferred to the genus '' Exidia'' by Fries in 1874. Donk preferred the name ''Exidia albida'' ( Huds.) Bref. for this species, but most later authors have followed Reid in considering ''E. albida'' a nomen dubium (name of uncertain application) that might originally have referred to any whitish or transparent jelly fungus. The epithet "thuretiana" compliments botanist Gustave Thuret, owner of the Château de Rentilly, in the grounds of which ''E. thuretiana'' was first collected. The recommended English name ...

Joseph-Henri Léveillé
Joseph-Henri Léveillé (28 May 1796 – 3 February 1870) was a French physician and mycologist who was a native of Crux-la-Ville, in the department of Nièvre. Léveillé studied medicine and mycology at the University of Paris, and in 1824 received his medical doctorate. In his 1837 paper ''Sur le hymenium des champignons'', he provided an early, comprehensive description of the basidium and cystidium of basidiomycete fungi, and was able to establish the role that the basidium played in spore production. Also, he made important findings in regard to the true nature of individual members of the so-called genus "Sclerotium". The British Mycological Society is a learned society established in 1896 to promote the study of fungi. Formation The British Mycological Society (BMS) was formed by the combined efforts of two local societies: the Woolhope Naturalists' Field Club of Hereford and the Yorkshire Naturalists’ Union.
