Exeter University RFC
Exeter University Rugby Football Club (EURFC) is the University of Exeter's rugby club. The men's side boasts nine sides competing in BUCS competitions, as well as a Saturday XV, currently playing in National League 2 West – a level 4 league in the English rugby union system – following their promotion from South West Premier as champions in 2021–22. The University 1st XV compete in BUCS Super Rugby, the flagship university rugby league in the United Kingdom. The club also boasts a highly successful women's setup, with two teams competing in BUCS competition. Having won the Women's National Championship in 2018 and 2019, EURFC Women secured a return to the top flight of women's university rugby, after an unbeaten 2021–22 season. Devon Rugby Football Union
The Devon Rugby Football Union is the sports governing body, governing body for the sport of rugby union in the county of Devon in England. The union is the constituent body of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) for Devon, and administers and organises rugby union clubs and competitions in the county. It also administers the Devon county rugby representative teams. History The first rugby team representing Devon was formed in 1877 but was solely a team with no organisation role. Middlesex Sevens
The Middlesex Sevens was a Rugby Sevens tournament held annually at Twickenham stadium in London, England until 2011. It was first held in 1926, and started by Dr J.A. Russell-Cargill, a London-based Scot.Bath, ''Scotland Rugby Miscellany'', p82 The event was held at the end of the rugby union season in May every year for 75 years and moved to August in 2001 due to lack of available stadium dates and players in May. The Middlesex Sevens tournament was last played in 2011, as the new Premiership Rugby 7s Series caused many of the top clubs that previously took part to pull out. This Rugby Sevens tournament was a charitable event, officially called the Middlesex Charity Sevens, with the beneficiaries being Wooden Spoon and the RFU's RFU Injured Players Fund. Devon League 1
Devon League 1 is an English level eight rugby union league for clubs based in Devon (and sometimes includes one Cornish club — St Columba & Torpoint). The champions are promoted to Cornwall/Devon and the runner-up plays the second team from Cornwall League 1, with the winning team gaining promotion. Up until the end of the 2017–18 season, teams were relegated to Devon League 2 but since that league has been abolished there is currently no relegation. Each year a team from Devon League 1 is picked to take part in the RFU Junior Vase – a national cup competition for clubs at levels 9–12. Devon League 2 (also known as Devon League 2 for sponsorship reasons) was an English level ten rugby union league for clubs based in Devon; with one exception (St Columba and Torpoint RFC is based in Torpoint, Cornwall and have always played in Plymouth Combination competitions). The champions and runners-up are promoted to Devon League 1, and since the cancellation of Devon League 3 in 2003 there was no relegation as this is the lowest division in club rugby union within Devon. The league was cancelled at the end of the 2017-18 season, with teams being either promoted into Devon League 1 or transferred into the Devon Merit Leagues. Devon RFU Senior Cup
The Devon Senior Cup is an annual rugby union league and cup club competition organized by the Devon Rugby Football Union. It was first introduced in the 1886-87 season and the inaugural competition was won by Tiverton. During the early years of the cup the format changed several times from a knock-out competition to a league format, then to hybrid league/cup, then back to being a knock-out cup once again. The competition also was had periods of inactivity, with World War I preventing play for a number of seasons and then the cup being cancelled in the 1930s before being reintroduced for the 1969-70 season when it was won by St. Luke's College (now University of Exeter). The Havill Plate was introduced in the 1970s for teams knocked out of the first round of the cup which would continue until 1999. Dafydd Jenkins (rugby Union)
Dafydd Jenkins (born 5 December 2002) is a Welsh international rugby union player currently playing for Premiership Rugby side Exeter Chiefs as a Lock. Jenkins has represented Wales and Wales U20. Club career Born in Bridgend, Jenkins began playing rugby for Porthcawl RFC juniors, where he progressed through the age groups. Jenkins attended Porthcawl Comprehensive School before transferring to Hartpury College, where he also played rugby. Prior to leaving Wales, Jenkins was part of the Ospreys academy. While playing for Hartpury, Jenkins was contacted by Exeter head coach Rob Baxter, and he linked up with their team in 2021. Jenkins studies sports sciences at the University of Exeter. He has played for their rugby team in the BUCS Super Rugby tournament, and was named man of the match when Exeter won the tournament, defeating Durham 14–13, scoring a try in the final. Christ Tshiunza
Christ Tshiunza (born 9 January 2002) is a rugby union player who plays as a lock or flanker for Exeter Chiefs in the English Premiership. Tshiunza has represented Wales and Wales U20. Club career Born in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, to a French family, he moved to Wales in 2010. He attended Whitchurch High School in Cardiff, where he was part of the Cardiff Blues academy, before going to study at University of Exeter, where he was signed by the Chiefs on a four-year contract. On 18 September 2021, Tshiunza made his debut for the Chiefs, appearing off the bench against Leicester Tigers. National League 2 South
National League 2 South (known before September 2009 as National Division Three South) was a level four league in the English rugby union system until the end of season 2021–22. It was one of two leagues at this level, with its counterpart, National League 2 North, covering the north of England. The format of the league was changed at the beginning of the 2009–10 season following reorganisation by the Rugby Football Union. The champions were promoted to National League 1. The runner-up play in a promotion play-off with the runner-up of National League 2 North; the team with the best record having home advantage. Don Rutherford
Donald Rutherford (22 September 1937 – 12/13 November 2016) was an international rugby union player and administrator. He was the first ever Technical Director of the Rugby Football Union at Twickenham, becoming Director of Rugby where he served with distinction from 1969 – 1999. During his career he played for St Luke's College, RAF, Combined Services, Percy Park RFC, Percy Park, Wasps RFC, Wasps and Northumberland. However he is most closely associated with Gloucester Rugby, Gloucester and Gloucestershire Rugby Football Union, Gloucestershire for whom he played from 1964 to 1968. He won fourteen caps for England, the first in 1960 against Wales national rugby union team, Wales, which England won 14–0; and toured Australia and New Zealand with the 1966 British Lions tour to Australia and New Zealand, 1966 British Lions. Lasha Jaiani is a Georgian rugby union player. He plays as lock for Exeter University in the BUCS Super Rugby competition. He was announced in Georgia U20 team for 2017 World Rugby Under 20 Championship. Lasha has recently participated in the 2020 Autumn Nations Cup, playing in all four games against England, Wales, Ireland and Fiji. Sam Skinner (rugby Union)
Samuel George Skinner (born 31 January 1995) is a professional rugby union player who plays as a lock for United Rugby Championship club Edinburgh. Born in England, he represents Scotland at international level after qualifying on ancestry grounds. Early life Skinner's father comes from Ayr.
