Executive Secretary Of The State Department
The Executive Secretary of the United States Department of State is the Director of the Executive Secretariat. The position holds a rank equivalent to an Assistant Secretary. Each Executive Secretary is appointed by the Secretary of State. The Executive Secretary serves as the liaison and the clearinghouse between the State Department’s bureaus and the leadership offices of the Secretary, the Deputy Secretaries, and the Director of Policy Planning. The Executive Secretary also manages relations between the State Department and the White House, the National Security Council, and other cabinet-level agencies. Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir
Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir is the Executive Secretary of the United States Department of State. She previously served as the United States Ambassador to Malaysia from 2017 to 2021. Early life and education Lakhdhir was born in Brooklyn, New York, daughter of Ann (née Hallan) and Noor Lakhdhir. Her father had moved from Mumbai, India to the U.S. to study at the University of California, Berkeley and then later moved to New York City. Lakhdhir grew up in New York and Westport, Connecticut. Benjamin Huger Read (1925–1993) was United States Under Secretary of State for Management from 1978 to 1981 under President Jimmy Carter. Biography Benjamin H. Read was born in Philadelphia on September 14, 1925. He was raised in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. During World War II, he served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, seeing service in China and Guam. After the war, he was educated at Williams College, receiving a B.A. in 1949, and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, receiving an LL.B. in 1952. Morton Charles Hill (April 28, 1936March 27, 2021) was an American diplomat and academic. He served as diplomat-in-residence and lecturer in international studies at Yale University. A career foreign service officer, Hill was a senior adviser to George Shultz, Henry Kissinger, and Ronald Reagan, as well as Boutros Boutros-Ghali, the sixth secretary-general of the United Nations. George Pratt Shultz (; December 13, 1920February 6, 2021) was an American economist, businessman, diplomat and statesman. He served in various positions under two different Republican presidents and is one of the only two persons to have held four different Cabinet-level posts, the other being Elliot Richardson. Cyrus Roberts Vance Sr. (March 27, 1917January 12, 2002) was an American lawyer and United States Secretary of State under President Jimmy Carter from 1977 to 1980. Prior to serving in that position, he was the United States Deputy Secretary of Defense in the Johnson administration.
