Exceptional Family Member Program
The Exceptional Family Member Program or EFMP is a mandatory U.S. Department of Defense enrollment program that works with other military and civilian Government agency, agencies to provide comprehensive and coordinated community support, housing, educational, Health care, medical, and Human resources, personnel services worldwide to U.S. military families with special needs. Service members on active duty enroll in the program when they have a family member with a Disability, physical, Developmental disorder, developmental, or Mental illness, emotional or mental disorder requiring specialized services so their needs can be considered in the military personnel assignment process. For military personnel, a tour of duty is usually a period of time spent in combat or in a hostile environment. In an army, for instance, soldiers on active duty serve 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the length of their service commitment. Soldiers in World War II were deployed for the entire war and could be in active service for 4–5 years. OCONUS
The contiguous United States (officially the conterminous United States) consists of the 48 adjoining U.S. states and the Federal District of the United States of America.
