The Meertens Institute (Dutch ''Meertens Instituut'') in Amsterdam is a research institute for Dutch language and culture within the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (''Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen'' or KNAW). Anthony Ewoud Jan Modderman
Anthony Ewoud Jan Modderman (27 September 1838 – 7 August 1885) was a Dutch liberal politician. Modderman was born in Winschoten, to Hendrik Jacob Herman Modderman and Adriana Sibylla Catharina Emmen. He studied Roman and Contemporary Law in Leiden, graduating in 1863, after which he settled in The Hague to become a lawyer. Modderman was appointed as Minister of Justice on 20 August 1879. As minister, he successfully opposed the reintroduction of the death penalty in 1881. He left office on 23 April 1883 and was given the honorary title of Minister of State six days later. Ewout Genemans (born 7 february 1985 in The Hague) is a Dutch tv producer, presenter, moderator and keynote speaker. He is well-known for presenting various tv programmes at RTL and produces popular shows with his production company No Pictures Please. Ewout Holst (born 8 October 1978 in The Hague, South Holland, Netherlands) is a Dutch former freestyle and butterfly swimmer. Holst's early years were spent abroad, travelling with his family to the various postings his father was given as a government official. It was whilst at school in Bonn that his skills as a swimmer became recognised. Ewoud Sanders (born 24 March 1958) is a Dutch historian of the Dutch language and a journalist. He is associated with the Museum Meermanno in The Hague, and is best known to the general public from his regular weekly column ''WoordHoek'' ("Word Corner") in the newspaper ''NRC Handelsblad''. His newspaper articles relate to the history of Dutch words and expressions; but also include scholarly studies of people such as the Dutch lexicographer Johan Hendrik van Dale.
