Evil Superstars
Evil Superstars was a Belgian indie rock band led by Mauro Pawlowski. Among its members was Millionaire and Eagles of Death Metal guitarist Tim Vanhamel. History Evil Superstars was formed in 1992 in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium. The original members were: * Mauro Pawlowski, vocals and guitar * Marc Requilé, samples and keyboards * Bart Vandebroek, bass guitar * Bart Vandeput, drums Johan Van Den Berghe soon replaced Bart Vandeput on drums. In March 1994 the band finished first in Humo's Rock Rally contest. Three months later Johan Van Den Berghe left, and was replaced by Dave Schroyen before the recording of their first EP, ''Hairfacts'' (1995). Tim Vanhamel, aged fifteen, joined the band. In 1996 this line-up recorded their first album ''Love Is Okay'', soon followed by a second EP ''Remix Apocalyps''. Mauro Pawlowski
Mauro Antonio Pawlowski (born 24 April 1971) is one of the key figures in the Belgian contemporary music scene. He was born in Koersel and is of Italian and Polish descent. He started his career as frontman of Evil Superstars in 1992. This group was, along with dEUS, part of the first wave of the Belgian music boom in the 90s. He split the band in 1998 and has since then played in numerous bands, including Mitsoobishy Jacson, Kiss my Jazz, Monguito and Shadowgraphic City, The Love Substitutes, Othin Spake, Club Moral, Archetypes of the Multisabanas, I Hate Camera, Mauro Pawlowski & the Grooms, Hitsville Drunks, Stahlmus Delegation and dEUS. Beside these projects, Mauro has released solo work under various aliasses: Mauro A. Pawlowski, Somnabula, while fronting a group called Gruppo di Pawlowski (2007 to date). Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. Tom Barman
Thomas Andrew Barman (born 1 January 1972), is a Belgian musician and film director. Barman studied at the film school of St.-Lucas in Brussels, but did not finish his studies because he wished to pursue a career in music. In 1989, he began by forming the rock band, dEUS, in Antwerp. Although he had chosen music over his interest in film, his experience aided him in directing his own music videos for dEUS, and he made a short film in 1996 titled ''Turnpike''. He also directed videos for other Belgian musicians including Axelle Red and Hooverphonic among others. He is of Norwegian descent from his father's side. In the summer of 2002 shooting started in Antwerp for his first feature film '' Any Way the Wind Blows'' which was released in Belgian cinemas in the summer of 2003. ''Any Way the Wind Blows'' is a 2003 Belgian film directed by Tom Barman, the lead singer of the Belgian rockband dEUS. The film is set in Antwerp and follows the lives of several characters intertwining with each other. Guy Ritchie
Guy Stuart Ritchie (born 10 September 1968) is an English film director, producer and screenwriter. Le Botanique ( French) or Kruidtuin (Dutch) is a cultural complex and music venue in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Brussels, Belgium. The building was previously the main orangery of the National Botanic Garden of Belgium and even as part of the garden had hosted cultural events. Humo's Rock Rally
Humo's Rock Rally is a Belgian contest for rock bands, organized every second year since 1978. It is organized by the Belgian magazine HUMO. Every band that has not yet released an official recording, may enter the Rock Rally, by submitting a demo to HUMO. Humo then selects 100 bands to compete in the pre-selections, followed by semi-finals and a final with 10 bands. The competing bands are assessed by a professional jury. Money prizes are awarded to the top three bands, as well as to one band chosen by the audience. The Rock Rally is an important possibility for young Belgian rock bands to get in the picture.
