''Everything Is Good Here/Please Come Home'' is the third studio album by Angels of Light. It was released on March 4, 2003, via band leader Michael Gira's own record label, Young God Records. Produced by Gira himself and engineered by Martin Bisi, the album features extensive contributions from various musicians, including freak folk musician Devendra Banhart, Hungarian violinist Eszter Balint, drummer Thor Harris and composer Joe McGinty. Proceeds from the band's 2002 live album, ''We Were Alive!'', were used to fund the production and recording of the album. Critical reception Upon its release, ''Everything Is Good Here/Please Come Home'' generally received positive reviews from the music critics. Ned Raggett of Allmusic wrote: Michael Gira maintains the winning streak but explores a newer, more controlled delicacy on ''Everything is Good Here''. Angels Of Light
Angels of Light were an American folk band that was formed circa 1998 by singer-songwriter and musician Michael Gira after he disbanded Swans, the group he had founded in 1982. The band has marked a distinctly different style for Gira since he left Swans, most noticeably being musically more melodic and less brutal than his previous efforts and with emphasis on acoustic instruments and folk and country influences. Before the band was formed, Gira intended to call his post-Swans acoustic/song-based project The Pleasure Seekers. This name was discarded because there had been a group with the same name in the 1960s. The first two live performances of what would become the Angels of Light (the Tonic/Bowery Ballroom benefit shows) were billed as "Michael Gira with guests". Eszter Balint (born 7 July 1966) is a Hungarian-American singer, songwriter, violinist, and actress. Biography Eszter Balint was born in Budapest, Hungary, to Marianne Kollar and Stephan Balint. She was living with the avant-garde Squat Theatre troupe in New York City, founded by her father when she first met Jean-Michel Basquiat. They became involved while he was filming ''Downtown 81''. In 1983, Balint was brought into the studio by Basquiat to play violin on the influential hip-hop record "Beat Bop" by Rammellzee and K-Rob. Balint made her cinematic debut in 1984 in director Jim Jarmusch's independent film ''Stranger Than Paradise''. Doug Henderson (musician)
Doug Henderson is an American musician, producer and mastering engineer based in New York City. He has been composing and performing since 1985 and has collaborated with a variety of artists and musicians, including John Zorn, Zeena Parkins and Ikue Mori. He has also had a prolific career as a recording and mastering engineer, working with bands such as Firewater, Angels of Light, Swans and System of a Down. Farfisa
Farfisa (Fabbriche Riunite di Fisarmoniche) is a manufacturer of electronics based in Osimo, Italy, founded in 1946. The company manufactured a series of compact electronic organs in the 1960s and 1970s, including the Compact, FAST, Professional and VIP ranges, and later, a series of other keyboard instruments. Fender Rhodes Piano
The Rhodes piano (also known as the Fender Rhodes piano) is an electric piano invented by Harold Rhodes, which became popular in the 1970s. Like a conventional piano, the Rhodes generates sound with keys and hammers, but instead of strings, the hammers strike thin metal tines, which vibrate next to an electromagnetic pickup. The signal is then sent through a cable to an external keyboard amplifier and speaker. The instrument evolved from Rhodes's attempt to manufacture pianos while teaching recovering soldiers during World War II. Development continued after the war and into the following decade. Kristof Hahn
Kristof Hahn (also known as Christoph Hahn) (born 6 February 1959) is a German guitarist., composer and translator. Hahn is best known for his lap-steel guitar playing in the New York experimental rock band Swans. He joined the band in 1989 for the Burning World tour and played on the subsequent album ''White Light from the Mouth of Infinity''. He left the band in 1992, joined Swans’ bandleader Michael Gira’s follow-up project Angels of Light in 1998 and became a constant member of the Swans relaunch from 2010 until 2017. David Garland (born December 17, 1954) is a singer-songwriter, composer, instrument designer, illustrator, graphic designer, journalist, and former New York city radio personality. Joe McGinty
Joe McGinty is an American composer, keyboardist and arranger who was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey. McGinty is most widely known for his five years as the keyboardist for The Psychedelic Furs (after a brief stint with Robert Hazard in Philadelphia). He is also the founder of the popular Loser's Lounge tribute series. He opened a New York City piano bar, Sid Gold's Request Room, with Beauty Bar owner Paul Devitt. Thor Harris
Thor Harris (born February 7, 1965) is an artist, sculptor, musician, painter, carpenter and handyman. He was the percussionist for Swans (2010–2016). He has performed with Shearwater (2001–2010), Bill Callahan, The Angels of Light, Lisa Germano, Yonatan Gat, Gretchen Phillips, Devendra Banhart, Rebecca Cannon, Xiu Xiu, Flock of Dimes & Amanda Palmer, Whalesong, and the Grand Theft Orchestra.
