Every Girl (Stellar Song)
"Every Girl" is a song by New Zealand band Stellar*, released as the fifth and final single from their debut album, ''Mix'' (1999). It is the band's highest-charting single in their home country, reaching number three on the RIANZ Singles Chart. The single was also released in Australia several months later with a different cover artwork. Track two of the single is billed as "Stellar vs International Observer" and is a dub remix of the band's "Violent" single. The second B-side is a dance remix of "Every Girl" called "Smooth Girl", done by band member Andrew Maclaren. Background According to band member Chris Van de Geer, "Every Girl" was recorded after Stellar* finished touring with fellow New Zealand band the Feelers in April 1999, becoming one the last tracks recorded for ''Mix''. Stellar (New Zealand Band)
Stellar (stylised stellar*) is a New Zealand pop/rock band led by vocalist Boh Runga, sister of acclaimed recording artist Bic Runga. They have had four RIANZ top 10 singles (the highest being " Every Girl" at #3) and two No. 1 albums. The band's signature song is "Violent", which at the 2000 New Zealand Music Awards won the Single of the Year award, as well as winning Runga an award for best Songwriter. The band won seven awards, among them the Best Album award for their debut, '' Mix''. This was followed up by 2001's '' Magic Line'' and 2006's '' Something Like Strangers''. The band officially disbanded in 2010 after releasing their greatest hits compilation, and reformed in 2017. Violent is New Zealand band Stellar*'s fourth single, and their third single from their debut album Mix. This song won the "Single of the Year" award at the 2000 New Zealand "Tui" Music Awards. Justin Pemberton is a documentary filmmaker based in New Zealand. Life and career Pemberton's adaptation of economist Thomas Piketty’s NY Times bestseller ''Capital in the Twenty-First Century'' premièred at the 2019 Sydney Film Festival and expanded to a worldwide release in 2020. The film is 'Certified Fresh' by Rotten Tomatoes with a 93% score. In 2016 Pemberton co-wrote and directed a film about rugby player Richie McCaw called ''Chasing Great'', which topped the New Zealand box office with a record-breaking opening weekend and went on to become the highest grossing New Zealand documentary of all time. His 2016 interactive documentary I Spy (with My 5 Eyes) investigated the Five Eyes Intelligence sharing network. The documentary was narrated by Lucy Lawless and produced by Carthew Neal. The Feelers is a New Zealand pop rock band formed in the early 1990s in Christchurch by James Reid (singer/guitarist) and Hamish Gee (drums/guitar). History The Feelers was signed by Warner Music and released their first album, '' Supersystem''. The album went to number 1 in New Zealand in September 1998, and became the second biggest selling album in the country that year. International Observer
International Observer is a British-New Zealand musical duo formed by Tom Bailey, musician and ex-lead singer of the British band the Thompson Twins, which rose to fame during the 1980s. Its debut album, ''Seen'', featured Māori visual artist Rakai Karaitiana as part of the project. Career Following from the ashes of both the Thompson Twins and subsequent group Babble, Bailey had taken to producing the New Zealand band Stellar* while still residing in the country (Bailey would subsequently move back to Europe in 2005). The success of this collaboration allowed him to focus on his own music, which had moved into the world of dub music, or chill music, as it is sometimes referred to in New Zealand. ''Mix'' is the debut studio album by New Zealand pop rock band Stellar, released by Sony BMG Sony BMG Music Entertainment was an American record company owned as a 50–50 joint venture between Sony Corporation of America and Bertelsmann. The venture's successor, the revived Sony Music, is wholly owned by Sony, following their buyout o ... on 29 July 1999. The album debuted at No. 2 on the RIANZ albums chart, and after seven weeks within the top ten, reached number one. The album was certified 5× platinum, after selling over 75,000 copies in New Zealand.
