Evelyn Künneke (15 December 1921 – 28 April 2001) was a German singer and stage, television and film actress. She was the daughter of the famous composer Eduard Künneke. ''Flaming Hearts'' (german: Flammende Herzen) is a 1978 West German drama film directed by Walter Bockmayer and Rolf Bührmann. It was entered into the 28th Berlin International Film Festival. Michael Rother produced the music for the film which was released the previous year as his debut solo album ''Flammende Herzen''. Plot Peter Huber (Peter Kern), the proprietor of a Bavarian corner newsstand, wins a free trip to New York City in a magazine contest, he is overjoyed. Filled with romantic ideas from the movies, his actual encounter with the gritty realities of the Big Apple are sobering. Nonetheless, he is in for the adventure of his life. The Hamburg Syndrome
''The Hamburg Syndrome'' (german: Die Hamburger Krankheit) is a 1979 West German-French science fiction film directed by Peter Fleischmann and starring Helmut Griem, Fernando Arrabal and Carline Seiser. The film is about an outbreak of an epidemic and quarantine. The film received attention again in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Plot A deadly epidemic breaks out in Hamburg. Out of the blue, victims fall dead in an embryonic posture. In one scene a doctor who autopsies the dead says: "Three days ago it was 12 odies the day before yesterday 57 and now we don't have any more space." Set in post-World War I Berlin, it also features Sydne Rome, Kim Novak and Marlene Dietrich in her final film role. Eduard Künneke
Eduard Künneke (also seen as Edward and spelled Künnecke) (27 January 1885 – 27 October 1953 in Berlin) was a German composer notable for his operettas, operas, theatre music and some orchestral works. Kuenneke was born in Emmerich am Rhein, Emmerich, Lower Rhine. After obtaining his school diploma he moved in 1903 to Berlin where he studied musicology and the history of literature; he translated ''Beowulf'' into German. He was subsequently accepted into Max Bruch's master-school for musical composition attached to the Royal Academy of Arts. By 1907 Kuenneke was already a repetiteur and chorus master at a Berlin operetta theatre, the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm, Neues Operettentheater am Schiffbauerdamm, but relinquished his post as chorus master after his opera ''Robins Ende'' (1909) was premiered in Mannheim and ''Coeur-As'' (1913) in Dresden.
