Evel Knievel (2004 Film)
''Evel Knievel'' is a 2004 American drama film directed by John Badham and written by Jason Horwitch. The film stars George Eads, Jaime Pressly, Lance Henriksen, Fred Thompson, Beau Bridges, Matt Gordon and Peter MacNeill. The film premiered on TNT on July 30, 2004. The movie is well known for its many gaffes and inaccurate portrayal of Knievel and his career. Plot The film begins with Knievel preparing to jump the fountains at Caesars Palace in front of a large audience. A flashback to Butte, Montana in 1950,12 year old Bobby Knievel steals some hubcaps and then escapes on his bicycle before being caught and arrested. In 1958, while working for the Anaconda Mining Company, he observes the lung damage affecting the older miners and resolves to make a living performing motorcycle stunts instead. Jay Sarno
Jay Sarno (July 2, 1922 – July 21, 1984) was an American developer, hotelier and casino owner. He developed and owned the Atlanta Cabana Motel in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as several motels in California and Texas. He was the founder of the Caesars Palace hotel and the Circus Circus in Las Vegas, Nevada. Early life Sarno was born in 1922 in St. Joseph, Missouri. His parents were Jewish immigrants from Poland. His father was a cabinet maker, his mother a homemaker. Sarno graduated from the University of Missouri, with a degree in business. While in college, he met Stanley Mallin, who would become his lifelong friend and business partner. During World War II, he joined the United States Army and served in the Pacific theatre alongside Mallin. Career With Stanley Mallin, Sarno became a tile contractor in Miami, Florida. Robert Craig "Evel" Knievel (; October 17, 1938 – November 30, 2007) was an American stunt performer and entertainer. Over the course of his career, he attempted more than 75 ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jumps. Knievel was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999. He died of pulmonary disease in Clearwater, Florida, in 2007, aged 69. Skycycle X-2
The Skycycle X-2 was a steam-powered rocket owned by Evel Knievel and flown during his Snake River Canyon jump in Idaho in 1974. An earlier prototype was designed, named the Skycycle X-1, by Doug Malewicki and retired U.S. Navy engineer Robert Truax. It was tested in November 1973 and dove in the Snake River. The Skycycle X-2 was designed by Truax, and ridden by Knievel in his attempt to jump the Snake River approximately west of Shoshone Falls near the city of Twin Falls, Idaho, on September 8, 1974. The parachute deployed during the launch, causing the stunt to fail. A later analysis showed that a design flaw in a mechanical parachute retention cover, which did not properly take base drag into account, caused the premature parachute deployment. Snake River Canyon (Idaho)
Snake River Canyon is a canyon formed by the Snake River in the Magic Valley region of southern Idaho, forming part of the boundary between Twin Falls County to the south and Jerome County to the north. The canyon ranges up to 500 feet (150 meters) deep and 0.25 miles (0.4 kilometers) wide, and runs for just over 50 miles. Perrine Bridge crosses the canyon immediately north of the city of Twin Falls. Shoshone Falls is located approximately 5 miles (8 kilometers) east of Perrine Bridge along the canyon. Robert Edward Knievel II (born May 7, 1962) is an American daredevil and son of stunt performer Evel Knievel. He has also used the code name "Kaptain Robbie Knievel". Family Robbie Knievel is the son of the stuntman Robert "Evel" Knievel and his first wife, Linda. The third of four children (two boys and two girls), Knievel is named after his paternal grandfather. Knievel has two daughters, Krysten and Karmen. He also has a granddaughter and grandson, Analise and Kane. Early life Knievel began jumping his bicycle at age four and rode motorcycles at age seven.
