Evans Shire
Evans Shire was a local government area which encircled the City of Bathurst in New South Wales, Australia. It was established on 1 October 1977 after the City of Bathurst, Abercrombie Shire and Turon Shire were divided between Bathurst City and Evans Shire. It was dissolved on 26 May 2004. The shire, when proclaimed was 4277.57 square kilometres and grew slightly to 4284 square kilometres prior to its dissolution. It included the towns of Hill End, Sofala, Sunny Corner, Rockley, Burraga and Trunkey Creek. Dissolution and amalgamation Evans Shire Council was placed on the Department of Local Government's financial monitoring watch list in 2002-2003 following concerns that it had become highly reliant on grants and contributions from the state and federal governments. Trunkey Creek, New South Wales
Trunkey Creek is a village located in the Central West of New South Wales, Australia in Bathurst Regional Council. It is about south of the city of Bathurst and about north of the city of Goulburn on the Bathurst Goulburn Road. At the , Trunkey Creek had a population of 120 people, almost unchanged from the figure of 122 people ten years earlier in the . During the gold rush of 1851 sparked by Edward Hargraves when he announced that there was payable gold to be found at the junction of the Abercrombie River and Grove Creek near the village, it is reputed to have swelled to 2500 people. Burraga is located in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales, 47 kilometres south west of Oberon and about south of Bathurst. It is within Oberon Shire. At the , Burraga had a population of 91. History Aboriginal and early settler history The area now known as Burraga lies on the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri people. The name Burraga is almost certainly a settler rendering of an Aboriginal language word. Burraga is also the name of the cadastral parish on the northern side of Thompson's Creek. Mining Copper was discovered around 1877 and was reported on by the inspector of mines in 1878. Mining commenced at the Thompsons Creek copper mine, but was hampered by poor management and under capitalisation, until the mine was purchased in 1879 by Lewis Lloyd, who was known as "the copper king". Sunny Corner, New South Wales
Sunny Corner is a small village in the central west of New South Wales, Australia and former mining area located between Lithgow and Bathurst just north of the Great Western Highway (Route 32). At the , Sunny Corner had a population of 92 people (down from 626 people ten years earlier at the ). Sunny Corner was never officially known as Sunny Corner until it was gazetted in 1885. In consequence the place was brought into existence by the development and success of the Sunny Corner Silver-mining Company's mine, and therefore the people generally acquired the habit of calling the whole place, including the newly surveyed town, after the company's property.
