Marika Ninou ( el, Μαρίκα Νίνου) (1922 – 23 February 1957), was an Armenian-Greek rebetiko singer, born Evangelia Atamian ( el, Ευαγγελία Αταμιάν). Biography She was born in 1922 on the ship "Evangelistria" that brought her mother, her two sisters and her eight-year-old brother, Barkev Atamian, from Smyrna (present day Izmir) to Piraeus. She came out of her mother's belly, and because they thought she would not live, she was taken to a warehouse. However, she survived and immediately the captain of the Evangelistria baptized her, that is how she was named Evangelia (meaning "she of the Gospel, she of the good news" in Greek). In Greece, her family settled in Kokkinia, at 50 Megara Street. At the age of seven, Ninou started attending the Armenian School of Blue Cross of Greece "Zavarian" in Kokkinia. Evangelia Chantava ( el, Ευαγγελία "Εύα" Χαντάβα; born 26 October 1990) is a Greek female professional volleyball player. Career She was born in Grevena and started her volleyball career at the age of 7 playing for her hometown's club, Grevena G.C. In 2005 at the age of 15, Chantava took the first big step in her career, when suddenly from playing against local teams, she found herself competing in the A1 league with Iraklis Thessaloniki (2005–2009) alongside great athletes. While she was playing for Iraklis she took the opportunity at the age of 16 to play with the Greece women's national volleyball team for the first time. Evangelia Micheli-Tzanakou (March 22, 1942 – September 24, 2012) was a professor of biomedical engineering and the Director of Computational Intelligence Laboratories at Rutgers University. Dr. Micheli-Tzanakou was also a Founding Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and a Fellow of the New Jersey Academy of Medicine. Dr. Micheli-Tzanakou's areas of interest included neural networks, information processing in the brain, image and signal processing applied to biomedicine, telemedicine, mammography, hearing aids and electronic equivalents of neurons. MV ''E Evangelia'' is a shipwrecked refrigerated cargo ship at Costinești on the Black Sea coast of Romania. She was built in Northern Ireland in 1942 as the Empire ship ''Empire Strength'', was operated by Blue Star Line from 1942 to 1961, was bought by Greek shipowners in 1965 and wrecked in 1968. The ship had four names in her career, having been renamed ''Saxon Star'' in 1946, ''Redbrook'' in 1961 and ''E Evangelia'' in 1965. Building Harland and Wolff's Belfast yard built the ship for the UK Ministry of War Transport (MoWT). She was launched on 28 May as ''Empire Strength'' and completed in December. She was a motor ship, with a six-cylinder four-stroke single-acting marine Diesel engine developing 490 NHP. The engine was built by Harland and Wolff but was a Burmeister & Wain design from Denmark.
