Evan Christopher
Evan Christopher (born August 31, 1969) is an American jazz clarinetist and composer. Biography Background His first musical training was at the Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts. After high school, he studied saxophone at the University of Southern California and graduated from California State University at Long Beach where he studied clarinet. Early mentors include clarinetists Kenny Davern, Tony Scott and soprano saxophonist George Probert. Career Tours with singer-songwriter A.J. Croce in the early 1990s brought Christopher to New Orleans. He moved to Crescent City in 1994 and enjoyed varied work before leaving to join the Jim Cullum Jazz Band in San Antonio, Texas in 1996. For nearly three years, he appeared nightly as their featured clarinetist and recorded episodes of the syndicated radio program '' Riverwalk Jazz''. Gypsy Jazz
Gypsy jazz (also known as gypsy swing, jazz manouche or hot club-style jazz) is a style of small-group jazz originating from the Romani guitarist Jean "Django" Reinhardt (1910–53), in conjunction with the French swing violinist Stéphane Grappelli (1908–97), as expressed in their group the Quintette du Hot Club de France. Because its origins are in France, Reinhardt was from the Manouche (French Sinti) clan, and the style has remained popular amongst the Manouche, gypsy jazz is often called by the French name "jazz manouche", or alternatively, "manouche jazz" in English language sources. Some scholars have noted that the style was not named ''manouche'' until the late 1960s; the name "gypsy jazz" began to be used around the late 1990s. Reinhardt was foremost among a group of Romani guitarists working in Paris from the 1930s to the 1950s. Trevor Richards (musician)
Trevor Hamilton Edward Richards (born 29 August 1945, Bexhill-on-Sea) is an English jazz drummer. Richards played in Germany from 1963–1966, then went to New York City, where he studied briefly with Zutty Singleton. He went to New Orleans and played in jazz clubs until 1968, when he returned to England. Later that year, he drummed for the Olympia Brass Band on a European tour. He would spend much of the 1970s touring Europe, playing with Louis Nelson, Alton Purnell, Freddie Kohlman, Albert Nicholas, and Benny Waters. In the 1980s he worked extensively with Art Hodes as well as with Ralph Sutton and Jacques Gauthé. He returned to New Orleans in 1982 and played with Clive Wilson; Richards eventually led Wilson's ensemble for recordings and a tour of Asia. Arnold McCuller
Arnold McCuller (born August 26, 1950) is an American vocalist, songwriter, and record producer, born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He was active as a solo artist and session musician, but is perhaps best known for his work as a touring back-up singer with artists such as James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Phil Collins, Beck, Bonnie Raitt, and Todd Rundgren. He toured for forty-five years with Taylor and is an audience favorite for his featured vocal parts on the songs "Shower the People", "I Will Follow", and "Is That the Way You Look". He has also toured extensively with Collins and is one of the main lead vocalists on the live version of "Easy Lover". In 2010 McCuller joined the Troubadour Reunion Tour supporting James Taylor and Carole King. Mark Ware Isham (born September 7, 1951) is an American musician and film composer. A trumpeter and keyboardist, Isham works in a variety of genres, including jazz and electronic. He is also a film composer, having worked on numerous films and television series, including '' The Hitcher,'' ''Point Break'', '' A River Runs Through It'', ''Of Mice and Men, Warrior, Nell, Blade,'' ''Crash'', ''The Black Dahlia'', '' The Lucky One'' and ''Once Upon a Time.'' Lionel Ferbos
Lionel Charles Ferbos (July 17, 1911 – July 19, 2014) was an American jazz trumpeter. He was from New Orleans, Louisiana. At 103, Ferbos was the oldest jazz musician in New Orleans. A native New Orleanian whose career centered almost exclusively in the city, he appeared weekly at thPalm Court Jazz Cafe a French Quarter club, where he led the Palm Court Jazz Band on Saturday nights. During his long career, Ferbos worked with some of the giants of early traditional jazz, including Captain John Handy and Mamie Smith, and, in later years, with widely recognized contemporary revivals of the old style music like the original stage band of the off-Broadway hit ''One Mo' Time''. Lars Edegran
Lars Ivar Edegran (born 1944) is a Dixieland jazz musician and bandleader from Sweden. He most often plays piano, guitar, or banjo but has also played mandolin, clarinet, and saxophone. Edegran was born in Stockholm, Sweden and played in New Orleans style groups in Sweden before moving to New Orleans in 1966. He played with many older and younger New Orleans musicians. Edegran founded and is the leader of the New Orleans Ragtime Orchestra. He has toured and recorded extensively. Tom McDermott (musician)
Tom McDermott is a pianist and composer born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1957. He began studying piano at age seven, became a professional musician at 16, and received a Master of Music degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1982. Two years later he moved to New Orleans and became noted for the styles of music associated with that town, especially traditional jazz and New Orleans R&B. He was in the group Dukes of Dixieland through much of the 1990s. In 1994 he co-founded and wrote arrangements for the innovative brass band the New Orleans Nightcrawlers. He has released 17 CDs as a leader, and has received praise from ''The New York Times'', ''Rolling Stone'', the ''Los Angeles Times'' and other publications. The Minnesota Orchestra is an American orchestra based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Founded originally as the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra in 1903, the Minnesota Orchestra plays most of its concerts at Minneapolis's Orchestra Hall. Marcus Roberts
Marthaniel "Marcus" Roberts (born August 7, 1963) is an American jazz pianist, composer, arranger, bandleader, and teacher. Early life Roberts was born in Jacksonville, Florida, United States. His mother was a gospel singer who had gone blind as a teenager, and his father was a longshoreman. Blind since age five due to glaucoma and cataracts, Roberts started learning the piano at age five by picking out notes on the instrument at his church until his parents bought a piano when he was eight. He attended the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind in St. Augustine, Florida, the alma mater of Ray Charles. Roberts began teaching himself piano at an early age, having his first lesson at age 12, and then studying with Leonidas Lipovetsky while attending Florida State University. Lucien Barbarin
Lucien Barbarin (July 17, 1956 – January 30, 2020) was an American trombone player. Barbarin toured internationally with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and with Harry Connick Jr. He made his debut at the age of six, playing drums in the Onward Brass Band, with his great-uncle Paul Barbarin. In New Orleans, Barbarin performed locally. After Hurricane Katrina severely damaged his home in 2005, he said: "I'm not running from New Orleans. ..I'm going to stay because I was born and raised here and I'm going to pass away here."
