Eva Sopher
Eva Sopher (June 18, 1923 – February 7, 2018) was a Brazilian theatre manager in Porto Alegre. She renovated the São Pedro Theatre and ran it for 41 years. Life Sopher was born in 1923 in Frankfurt am Main in Germany. She was born Eva Margarete Plaut; her parents Max and Marie were Jewish and, like many, her family left Germany to avoid the rise of Nazism in 1936. She was educated in São Paulo and when she was 16 she met Theodor Heuberger, who gave her work at his art gallery. Heuberger was the founder of the non-profit organization named ''Pro-Arte'' to create cultural events involving Brazil and Germany. Heuberger was supported by the composer Pedro Sinzig and the pianist Maria Amélia Rezende Martins. Sopher ran many artistic endeavours in Porto Alegre for the organisation ''Pro-Arte''. São Pedro Theatre
The São Pedro Theatre (''Theatro São Pedro'' in Portuguese) is the oldest theatre in the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. History Founded in 1858, the theatre quickly became an artistic, social, and political center in the country. In the 1970s it was realised that the theatre was in need of a major renovation. Eva Sopher who had run many artistic endeavours in Porto Alegre for the organisation PROARTE was chosen by the government to lead the project. The renovation was to take nine years and became Soper's life's work. The theatre reopened in 1984. Soper was to run the theatre for 41 years (the rest of her life). In 1991 there was a challenge to her leadership but admirers including the Brazilian director and actor gathered to hold hands around the theatre to show their support. Nazism
Nazism ( ; german: Nazismus), the common name in English for National Socialism (german: Nationalsozialismus, ), is the far-right totalitarian political ideology and practices associated with Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party (NSDAP) in Nazi Germany. Goethe Medal
The Goethe Medal, also known as the Goethe-Medaille, is a yearly prize given by the Goethe-Institut honoring non-Germans "who have performed outstanding service for the German language and for international cultural relations". It is an official decoration of the Federal Republic of Germany. The prize used to be given on 22 March, the anniversary of Goethe's death. Since 2009, it has been given on 28 August, the anniversary of Goethe's birth. The first awards were made in 1955. José Ivo Sartori
José Ivo Sartori (born 25 February 1948) is a Brazilian politician. He is a former city councilor and former mayor of Caxias do Sul and belongs to PMDB. He is married to Maria Helena Sartori, with whom he has two sons, Marcos and Carolina. He was the 38th Governor of Rio Grande do Sul from 2015 to 2019. Biography Sartori graduated in Philosophy at the University of Caxias do Sul. He began his political career in 1976 when he was elected alderman in Caxias do Sul. He won five consecutive terms for the state's Legislative Assembly from 1982 and was elected congressman in 2002. He was also state secretary of Labor and Social Welfare, between 1987 and 1988. Sartori ran four times for mayor of Caxias do Sul, in 1992, 2000 and 2004, when he was elected with 52.43% in the second round. The governor of Rio Grande do Sul is the head of government of the state's executive branch, assisted by his secretaries, whom he freely chooses.
