World Sailing (WS) is the world sport governing body, governing body for the sailing (sport), sport of sailing recognized by the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). History The creation of the International Yacht Racing Union (IYRU) began in 1904, when Major Brooke Heckstall-Smith AINA, then Secretary of the Yacht Racing Association (now the Royal Yachting Association) wrote to the Yacht Club de France, pointing out the desirability of holding a conference for the purpose of devising an International Rule of Measurement for Racing Yachts acceptable to all European countries. As a result, an International Conference of Yacht Measurement was held in London in January and June 1906, at which the Metre Rule was developed. This group went on to adopt a formal Constitution after a meeting at the Yacht Club de France in Paris on 14 October 1907 which is seen as the formation date of the International Yacht Racing Union. Camille Lecointre
Camille Lecointre (born 25 February 1985 in Harfleur) is a French sailor. Career Lecointre competed in the ''470 class'' at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She finished fourth with Mathilde Géron in that event. She was a bronze medalist in 470 at the 2015 World Championships and won the world title in 2016 with Hélène Defrance. Lecointre and Defrance were selected to compete in the 2016 Summer Olympics and they won the bronze medal in the women's 470 class. Lecointre and Aloïse Retornaz won the 470 European Championships in 2019 and 2021. They also won the silver medal in 470 category at the 2019 Military World Games in Wuhan, and win the final of the Sailing World Cup in Marseille. Annette Duetz (born 29 June 1993 in Zeddam) is a sailor from the Netherlands. Together with Annemiek Bekkering, she is the bronze medalist of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Skiff – 49er FX. Bekkering and Duetz qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Skiff – 49er FX. They earlier lost the national selection to Nina Keizer en Claire Blom, but Keizer and Blom failed to fulfill the qualification criteria of NOC/NSF. Kahena Kunze (born 12 March 1991) is a Brazilian sailor in the 49er FX class. Martine Soffiatti Grael (born 12 February 1991) is a Brazilian sailor in the 49er FX class. Together with Kahena Kunze she won the 49er FX class at the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships and at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Stuart Bithell
Stuart Bithell (born 28 August 1986 in Rochdale) is a British sailor and Olympic champion. He competed with Luke Patience in the 470 class at the 2012 Summer Olympics where he won a silver medal and in the 2020 Summer Olympics where he won a gold medal in the Men's 49er class with Dylan Fletcher. In 2013, it was announced that Bithell and Patience would part ways, their aim for 470 gold no longer viable. While Patience continued in the 470, Bithell moved on to partner with John Pink in the 49er class. They failed to qualify for Rio 2016, losing out to Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign. After Rio, Pink and Sign both left the class. This resulted in Bithell and Fletcher teaming up. The decision was made in Portland, while the two competed against each other in the Moth class. Dylan Fletcher
Dylan James Fletcher-Scott (born 3 April 1988) is a British sailor and Olympic champion in Men's 49er in Tokyo 2020. Fletcher and Alain Sign placed sixth in the 49er event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Starting sailing at age 11 and racing at 13, Fletcher has always sailed double handers. Quickly finding himself at the front of the 405 fleet he moved up into the 29er enjoying similar success including 29er under 19 world champion in 2006 (Weymouth, 2nd in seniors). He then transitioned into the 49er climbing up the ranks collecting medals along the way. Fletcher now sails with Olympic 2012 470 Silver medalist Stuart Bithell. Andrew Blair Tuke (born 25 July 1989) is a New Zealand sailor who won the 2021 Americas Cup Held in Auckland and also won the 2017 Version held in Bermuda. Peter Burling (born 1 January 1991) is a New Zealand sailor. He was the 2021 America's Cup winning skipper and helmsman, and the 2017 America's Cup winning helmsman of Team New Zealand, and won an Olympic gold medal in the 49er class at the 2016 games and silver medals in the 2012 and 2020 Olympics. Weymouth is a seaside town in Dorset, on the English Channel coast of England.
