European Weightlifting Federation
The European Weightlifting Federation (EWF) was founded in 1969, and is the body governing and organizing the European Weightlifting Championships. The EWF is a "recognized continental body" under the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). Following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine On 24 February 2022, in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which began in 2014. The invasion has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths on both sides. It has caused Europe's largest refugee crisis since World War II. European Junior & U23 Weightlifting Championships
European Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championships ( European U23 and U20 Weightlifting Championships) is an annual event organised by the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF) for Under 23 and under 20 Weightlifters in Europe. European Championships in junior category were held from 1973 under the name European Junior Weightlifting Championships (U20). In 2009 the competitions were held in two cities, European Junior Weightlifting Championships in Landskrona and the new European U23 Weightlifting Championships in Wladyslawowo. After that year, the competition took the current name. International Weightlifting Federation
The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), headquartered in Lausanne, is the international governing body for the sport of Olympic weightlifting. The IWF was founded in 1905, and has 192 Member Federations. The IWF President is Mohammed Hasan Jalood of Iraq. Originally called the Fédération Haltérophile International (FHI), it changed its name to IWF between the 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics. Controversies Doping in weightlifting was highlighted during the 2020 Olympic Games due to historic problems within the sport.
