European Union–Peru relations refers to the bilateral relations between the European Union and Peru. The Delegation of the European Union in Peru is based in the city of Lima and also serves as the link for the Andean Community. Bilateralism is the conduct of political, economic, or cultural relations between two sovereign states. It is in contrast to unilateralism or multilateralism, which is activity by a single state or jointly by multiple states, respectively. When states recognize one another as sovereign states and agree to diplomatic relations, they create a bilateral relationship. States with bilateral ties will exchange diplomatic agents such as ambassadors to facilitate dialogues and cooperations. The Head of Delegation of the European Union in Lima is the official representative of the European Commission to the Government of Peru, based in the delegation in the district of San Isidro. The delegation also serves as a link between the EU and the Andean Community. Since 2021, the current representative of the EU is Spanish citizen Gaspar Frontini. Background The delegation of what was then the European Economic Community in Lima opened in March 1991. It is currently housed in the same building that houses the Colombian embassy in Lima, and was concurrently accredited to Bolivia until 1995, when a delegation opened in La Paz.
