European Rain
"European Rain" is a song by Scottish pop band The Big Dish, released on 18 July 1988 as the lead single from their second studio album, ''Creeping Up on Jesus''. The song was written by Steven Lindsay and produced by Bruce Lampcov. "European Rain" reached No. 78 in the UK Singles Chart and remained in the Top 100 for four weeks. Background In a 1988 interview with '' Record Mirror'', Lindsay described "European Rain" as "the most obvious single off the new LP". Later in 1991, he revealed that the song was written and recorded after the band's label, Virgin, felt the existing material being recorded for ''Creeping Up on Jesus'' lacked hit single potential. The singer told ''New Musical Express'', "We hated it. It was more or less written to order, and maybe it was just as well that it wasn't a hit or we would have been trapped and expected to write the same sort of rubbish over and over again." The Big Dish (band)
The Big Dish are a Scottish pop band formed in Airdrie, Scotland in 1983. The band initially comprised Steven Lindsay (vocals/guitar), David Brownlie (drums), Stuart Hall (saxophone), Mark Ryce (guitar), and John Harper (keyboards). The band was subsequently augmented on stage by Paul Albertis (bass) and John Hendry (drums). As well as releasing three studio albums, the band performed live as support to Lloyd Cole and Big Country and Del Amitri. Career By the time their debut album '' Swimmer'' was released on Virgin Records in 1986 the line-up had undergone notable changes. Lindsay and Raymond Docherty were joined by new guitarist Brian McFie, keyboardist/saxophonist Ian Ritchie (album recordings only), Allan Dumbreck (live performances) on keyboards and Dave Cantwell (live performances) replacing John Hendry on drums. ''Music Week'' is a trade publication for the UK record industry distributed via a website and a monthly print magazine. It is published by Future. History Founded in 1959 as '' Record Retailer'', it relaunched on 18 March 1972 as ''Music Week''. On 17 January 1981, the title again changed, owing to the increasing importance of sell-through videos, to ''Music & Video Week''. Chris Sheldon (born 25 September 1962) is an English record producer, particularly of rock music based in London, England. He has produced or mixed records for the Foo Fighters, Garbage, Big Country, Feeder, Therapy?, Biffy Clyro, Oceansize, Pixies and Shed 7. He lives in London, is married and has two daughters. Career Sheldon was born in Pakistan when his parents were posted abroad for work and grew up in Surrey. He took his first steps in the music industry when he was a drummer in several local punk bands. In the mid-1980s he worked as engineer in productions of artists such as Dead or Alive, Prefab Sprout, Elkie Brooks and Roger Waters. Ian Ritchie (producer)
Ian Ritchie is an English composer, record producer, arranger and saxophonist. He was the producer of Roger Waters' album ''Radio K.A.O.S.'', along with other recordings with Laurie Anderson (''Strange Angels''), Pete Wylie (''Sinful''), Hugh Cornwell (''Wolf'') and the Big Dish (''Swimmer''). During the 1980s, he collaborated with English singer/songwriter Gary Numan. Ritchie is married to the jazz and cabaret performer, Holly Penfield. Ritchie is also the composer of "The Globe Trekker Theme" (previously known as "The Lonely Planet Theme"), the theme music of the travel show ''Globe Trekker''. He is a member of the Liverpool-based theatre rock group Deaf School, and has released a number of singles in the 1980s under the name Miro Miroe. ''Record Mirror'' was a British weekly music newspaper between 1954 and 1991 for pop fans and record collectors. Launched two years after the ''NME'', it never attained the circulation of its rival. The first UK album chart was published in ''Record Mirror'' in 1956, and during the 1980s it was the only consumer music paper to carry the official UK singles and UK albums charts used by the BBC for Radio 1 and ''Top of the Pops'', as well as the US ''Billboard'' charts.
