The European Land Registry Association (ELRA) is an international non-profit association whose mission and primary purpose is “the development and understanding of the role of land registration in real property and capital markets”. ELRA was born on 2004 to defend the interest of land registries in the European Union. Initially it started off with 12 members and it now has 30 organizations representing the land registries of 22 Member States. Land registration is any of various systems by which matters concerning ownership, possession, or other rights in land are formally recorded (usually with a government agency or department) to provide evidence of title, facilitate transactions, and prevent unlawful disposal. The information recorded and the protection provided by land registration varies widely by jurisdiction. EULIS
The European Land Information Service (EULIS) provides direct access to official land registers in Europe. EULIS is owned by a consortium of member countries with expertise in the area of land registration, most of which are government organisations. EULIS was an initiative led by the official bodies for land registration in European countries. History Between 2001 and 2004, eight different European land information organisations and one university cooperated in developing a demonstrator e-platform for subscribed users of land registries with support and additional funding from the European Commission. In addition the team worked hard to produce online reference information from each participating country. In 2004-2007, the long-term aim was to help encourage cross-border lending on the Integration of EU Mortgage Credit Markets.
