European Citizen's Prize
In 2008, the European Parliament introduced the European Citizen's prize. It is intended to reward on an annual basis individuals or groups who have particularly distinguished themselves in strengthening European integration by the expression of European cooperation, openness to others and practical involvement in the development of mutual understanding. It is awarded upon nominations of Members of European Parliament. The Prize ThEuropean Citizen's Prizewas launched by the European Parliament in 2008 to recognise exceptional achievements by Europeans. In that year, 37 people from 19 member states were selected for the prize in recognition of relevant work done. They received their medals in national award ceremonies and had the chance to showcase their work and meet MEPs at the European Parliament in Brussels on 7–8 November. European Parliament
The European Parliament (EP) is one of the legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions. Together with the Council of the European Union (known as the Council and informally as the Council of Ministers), it adopts European legislation, following a proposal by the European Commission. The Parliament is composed of 705 members (MEPs). It represents the second-largest democratic electorate in the world (after the Parliament of India), with an electorate of 375 million eligible voters in 2009. Since 1979, the Parliament has been directly elected every five years by the citizens of the European Union through universal suffrage. Voter turnout in parliamentary elections decreased each time after 1979 until 2019, when voter turnout increased by eight percentage points, and rose above 50% for the first time since 1994. Spomenka Hribar (born 25 January 1941) is a Slovenian author, philosopher, sociologist, politician, columnist, and public intellectual. She was one of the most influential Slovenian intellectuals in the 1980s, and was frequently called "the First Lady of Slovenian Democratic Opposition", and "the Voice of Slovenian Spring" She is married to the Slovenian Heideggerian philosopher Tine Hribar. Early life She was born Spomenka Diklić in Belgrade, then the capital of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, to a Serb father (Radenko Diklić) and a Slovene mother (Marija Jelica Mravlje). Hej Främling!
Hej Främling! (English: Hello Stranger) is a Swedish charity that introduces refugees to Swedish cultural events. In 2017, the group was the European finalist for the Nansen Refugee Awards. Organization and activities Hej Främling! was informally co-founded in Östersund in November 2013, by Anne Lundberg and Emma Arnesson. Official charitable registration occurred in September 2015. Initial activities included teaching cross-country skiing to 300 of the refugees being housed in a former army base in Grytan municipality. After initial success, the Hej främling activities expanded beyond Östersund to Farsta, Dals-Ed, Höga Kusten, and Uppsala and activities expanded to the provision of sporting equipment and clothing, and bicycle lessons. The Committee for the Defence of Democracy, CDD ( pl, Komitet Obrony Demokracji, ''KOD'') is a Polish-born civic organization and NGO which among its goals includes promoting the European values, especially democracy, rule of law, and human rights. Nawal Soufi (Arabic: نوال الصوفي ; born 1988 in Morocco) is a Moroccan-Italian social worker and human rights activist. She also has been active in immigration and is a sympathizer of the Palestinian cause. Biography Soufi was born in Morocco of Moroccan parents but just after a few weeks after the birth they moved to Catania at the foot of Etna in Italy. CoderDojo
CoderDojo is a global volunteer-led community of free programming workshops for young people. The movement is a grassroots organisation with individual clubs (called "Dojos") acting independently. A charity called the ''CoderDojo Foundation'' operates out of Dublin, Ireland, and supports the various clubs by providing a central website and some other support services. Citizens UK is a grassroots alliance of many local communities working together. Citizens UK has 17 chapters across the UK made up of local institutions, including schools, universities, churches, mosques, synagogues, parent groups, health trusts, charities, and unions. They have won over £1.5 billion of wages through the UK Living Wage campaign, winning a legal cap on the cost of credit, and ending the detention of children for immigration purposes. Iordan Gheorghe Bărbulescu (born 20 January 1952) is a Romanian university professor and diplomat. He is currently dean of the department of international relations and European studies of the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration in Bucharest, as well as president of the senate of this university. He is also president of the Romanian Association for International Relations and European Studies (ARRISE). He has a doctorate from the University of the Basque Country, with a thesis on the pre-accession of eastern European countries to the European Union.
