The 1960 European Women's Basketball Championship was the 7th regional championship held by FIBA Europe for women. The competition was held in Sofia, Bulgaria and took place June 3–11, 1960. The Soviet Union won the gold medal, while hosts Bulgaria received the silver. Czechoslovakia won the bronze medal. Preliminary round The teams where divided into two groups. The first three from each group would go to the Final Round. The remaining teams went to the Classification Round to determine the 7th–10th spots. The 1962 European Women's Basketball Championship was the 8th regional championship held by FIBA Europe for women. The competition was held in Mulhouse, France and took place on September 22–29, 1962. The Soviet Union won their sixth gold medal (third in a row) while Czechoslovakia and Bulgaria won silver and bronze, respectively. Preliminary round The teams where divided into two groups. The first two from each group would advance to the bracket that defined the first four places. The system to determine the 5th–10th places consisted in three final matches between teams that had the same position in both groups. EuroBasket Women
EuroBasket Women is a biennial international women's basketball competition held between the nations of FIBA Europe for women's national teams. EuroBasket Women is also used as a qualifying tournament for the FIBA Women's World Cup and also the Olympic Games. History The first tournament was held in 1938 in Fascist Italy, with participation of only five national teams. Despite losing to Lithuania (21–23), the host team won all other matches and captured inaugural title thanks to better head-to-head point difference among Top 3 teams. Lithuania and Poland took silver and bronze medals respectively. The Second World War (1939–1945), which began the following year, interrupted the organization of women's basketball tournaments for a long time. The Bulgaria women's national basketball team ( bg, България отбор жени национален по баскетбол) represents Bulgaria in international women's basketball, and is controlled by the Bulgarian Basketball Federation.
