Eunotidae
Eunotidae is a family (biology), family of Chalcid wasp, chalcidoid wasps. In 2022, this family was described based on an analysis of a combination of molecular, morphological, and life history data. Description Small parasitic wasps. Most species are known to be parasitoids of scale insects (Scale insect, Coccoidea). Taxonomy Eunotidae contains the following genera: *''Butiokeras'' (Extinct) *''Cavitas (genus), Cavitas'' *''Cephaleta'' *''Epicopterus'' *''Eunotus'' *''Mesopeltita'' *''Scutellista'' References

Chalcidoidea
Chalcid wasps (, , for their metallic colour) are insects within the superfamily Chalcidoidea, part of the order Hymenoptera. The superfamily contains some 22,500 known species, and an estimated total diversity of more than 500,000 species, meaning the vast majority have yet to be discovered and described. The name "chalcid" is often confused with the name "chalcidid", though the latter refers strictly to one constituent family, the Chalcididae, rather than the superfamily as a whole; accordingly, most recent publications (e.g.,) use the name "chalcidoid" when referring to members of the superfamily. Most chalcid wasps are parasitoids of other insects, though other life styles are known, with the herbivorous fig wasps acting as pollinators. Various species are used as biological pest control agents or in scientific research. Description Chalcidoids are generally small wasps, averaging 1.5 mm in length and usually being less than 3 mm. The body is often metallic in colour. T ...

Family (biology)
Family ( la, familia, plural ') is one of the eight major hierarchical taxonomic ranks in Linnaean taxonomy. It is classified between order and genus. A family may be divided into subfamilies, which are intermediate ranks between the ranks of family and genus. The official family names are Latin in origin; however, popular names are often used: for example, walnut trees and hickory trees belong to the family Juglandaceae, but that family is commonly referred to as the "walnut family". What belongs to a family—or if a described family should be recognized at all—are proposed and determined by practicing taxonomists. There are no hard rules for describing or recognizing a family, but in plants, they can be characterized on the basis of both vegetative and reproductive features of plant species. Taxonomists often take different positions about descriptions, and there may be no broad consensus across the scientific community for some time. The publishing of new data and opini ...

Scale Insect
Scale insects are small insects of the order Hemiptera, suborder Sternorrhyncha. Of dramatically variable appearance and extreme sexual dimorphism, they comprise the infraorder Coccomorpha which is considered a more convenient grouping than the superfamily Coccoidea due to taxonomic uncertainties. Adult females typically have soft bodies and no limbs, and are concealed underneath domed scales, extruding quantities of wax for protection. Some species are hermaphroditic, with a combined ovotestis instead of separate ovaries and testes. Males, in the species where they occur, have legs and sometimes wings, and resemble small flies. Scale insects are herbivores, piercing plant tissues with their mouthparts and remaining in one place, feeding on sap. The excess fluid they imbibe is secreted as honeydew on which sooty mold tends to grow. The insects often have a mutualistic relationship with ants, which feed on the honeydew and protect them from predators. There are about 8,000 descr ...

Cavitas (genus)
A body cavity is any space or compartment, or potential space, in an animal body. Cavities accommodate organs and other structures; cavities as potential spaces contain fluid. The two largest human body cavities are the ventral body cavity, and the dorsal body cavity. In the dorsal body cavity the brain and spinal cord are located. The membranes that surround the central nervous system organs (the brain and the spinal cord, in the cranial and spinal cavities) are the three meninges. The differently lined spaces contain different types of fluid. In the meninges for example the fluid is cerebrospinal fluid; in the abdominal cavity the fluid contained in the peritoneum is a serous fluid. In amniotes and some invertebrates the peritoneum lines their largest body cavity called the coelom. Mammals Mammalian embryos develop two body cavities: the intraembryonic coelom and the extraembryonic coelom (or chorionic cavity). The intraembryonic coelom is lined by somatic and spl ...

Eunotus
''Eunotus'' is a genus of chalcid wasps. Most species are parasitoids of scale insects. Description The antennae are inserted above the clypeal margin, and they consist of either four or five funicular segments. The thorax has a dense reticulate sculpture, with the frenal line on the Scutellum (insect anatomy), scutellum usually being absent. The scutellum does not extend beyond the propodeum, and the propodeum has a distinct tooth-like median carina. The fore-wing is covered in fine hairs. The first gastral tergite covers most of the Gaster (insect anatomy), gaster.Xiao, H., & Huang, D. W. (2001). A review of Eunotinae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Pteromalidae) from China. Journal of Natural History, 35(11), 1587-1605. http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/002229301317092342 Taxonomy The genus ''Eunotus'' includes the following species: * ''Eunotus acutus'' Kurdjumov, 1912, a parasitoid of felt scales (Eriococcidae); found in the Palearctic. * ''Eunotus aequalivena'' Xiao and Huang, 2001; fou ...

Mesopeltita
''Mesopeltita'' is a genus of chalcid wasps. The only species, ''Mesopeltita truncatipennis'', is a parasitoid of coccid scale insects (''Ceroplastes'', '' Lecanium'', and ''Saissetia'' species); it has been found on pigeon pea, ''Cajanus cajan''. The species has been found in many countries (Antilles, Brazil, Caribbean, Ghana, India, Japan, Mauritius, Mexico, São Tomé and Príncipe, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, United States of America, Venezuela). Description ''Mesopeltita truncatipennis'' has a shiny black head and thorax. The occiput is separated from the vertex Vertex, vertices or vertexes may refer to: Science and technology Mathematics and computer science *Vertex (geometry), a point where two or more curves, lines, or edges meet *Vertex (computer graphics), a data structure that describes the position ... by a sharp carina and the antennal funicle has three anelliform segments. Scutellista
''Scutellista'' is a genus of chalcid wasps. They are parasitoids of scale insects. Description The Scutellum (insect anatomy), scutellum projects as a roof over about two-thirds of the Gaster (insect anatomy), gaster. The mesoscutum and scutellum have with many scattered short hairs, rather than pairs of strong bristles.Xiao, H., & Huang, D. W. (2001).
