Euler Society
The Euler Society is an American group that is dedicated to the examination of the life and work of Leonhard Euler. Its first meeting was August 2002, organized after several enthusiasts met at the 2001 Joint Mathematics Meeting The Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) is a mathematics conference hosted annually in early January by the American Mathematical Society (AMS). Frequently, several other national mathematics organizations also participate. The meeting is the largest .... About the Euler Society The Euler Society was founded in 2001. The mission of the Euler Society is to encourage academic contributions that study the life, work, and influence of Leonhard Euler. Along with examining Euler, the Euler Society also explores current mathematical topics that build upon his work. In addition, the society engages in the study of the Enlightenment, which was an intellectual movement of 18th century Europe. These mathematical topics include applications to mechanics, astronomy, and ...

Leonhard Euler
Leonhard Euler ( , ; 15 April 170718 September 1783) was a Swiss mathematician, physicist, astronomer, geographer, logician and engineer who founded the studies of graph theory and topology and made pioneering and influential discoveries in many other branches of mathematics such as analytic number theory, complex analysis, and infinitesimal calculus. He introduced much of modern mathematical terminology and notation, including the notion of a mathematical function. He is also known for his work in mechanics, fluid dynamics, optics, astronomy and music theory. Euler is held to be one of the greatest mathematicians in history and the greatest of the 18th century. A statement attributed to Pierre-Simon Laplace expresses Euler's influence on mathematics: "Read Euler, read Euler, he is the master of us all." Carl Friedrich Gauss remarked: "The study of Euler's works will remain the best school for the different fields of mathematics, and nothing else can replace it." Euler is a ...

Joint Mathematics Meeting
The Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) is a mathematics conference hosted annually in early January by the American Mathematical Society (AMS). Frequently, several other national mathematics organizations also participate. The meeting is the largest gathering of mathematicians in the United States, and the largest annual meeting of mathematicians in the world. For example, more than 6000 people attended the 2017 JMM. Several thousand talks, panels, minicourses, and poster sessions are held each year. The JMM also hosts an ''Employment Center'', which is a focal point for the hiring process of academic mathematicians, especially for liberal arts colleges. Many employers conduct their preliminary interview process at the meeting. Often these interviews take place outside the confines of the conference, so the employers may not appear on the official Employment Center listing. Future Meetings * Boston, MA, January 4-7, 2023 * San Francisco, CA, January 3–6, 2024 * Seattle, WA, ...

Mathematical Societies
Mathematics is an area of knowledge that includes the topics of numbers, formulas and related structures, shapes and the spaces in which they are contained, and quantities and their changes. These topics are represented in modern mathematics with the major subdisciplines of number theory, algebra, geometry, and analysis, respectively. There is no general consensus among mathematicians about a common definition for their academic discipline. Most mathematical activity involves the discovery of properties of abstract objects and the use of pure reason to prove them. These objects consist of either abstractions from nature orin modern mathematicsentities that are stipulated to have certain properties, called axioms. A ''proof'' consists of a succession of applications of deductive rules to already established results. These results include previously proved theorems, axioms, andin case of abstraction from naturesome basic properties that are considered true starting points of t ...
