Eugène Joors (20 February 1850, Borgerhout - 23 October 1910, Berchem), was a Belgian painter in the realistic style. Life and work He studied from 1865 to 1870 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antwerp, where his teacher were Polydore Beaufaux, Nicaise de Keyser and Jozef Van Lerius. In 1886, he became a teacher of still-life painting, in cooperation with his friend Frans Mortelmans. Borgerhout () is the smallest district of Antwerp, Belgium. , the district houses 45,769 inhabitants on 3,93 km². It was an independent municipality until January 1983. The postal area code for Borgerhout is 2140. Geography Borgerhout is divided into two parts by a highway and the historical walls. The part inside those walls is "intra muros," meaning (within the walls). It is built around a big boulevard, the Turnhoutsebaan. The Turnhoutsebaan is the biggest shopping street, offering both food and clothing, in both Belgian and foreigner's stores. "Intra muros" is the young and trendy part of Borgerhout, with a lot of so-called "hipster bars". Demographics Borgerhout has an extremely diverse population, with 63% percent of inhabitants having non-Belgian ancestry. Of the nine districts of Antwerp, it has the highest population density. Charles Verlat or Karel Verlat (25 November 182423 October 1890) was a Belgium, Belgian painter, watercolorist, engraver (printmaker), Visual arts education, art educator and director of the Antwerp Academy. Max Rooses
Max Rooses (10 February 1839 – 15 July 1914) was a Belgian writer, literary critic, and curator of the Plantin-Moretus Museum at Antwerp. Rooses was born in Antwerp, and went to school there up to 1858, after which he attended the University of Liège to study Philosophy and Literature. From 1860 until 1864 he was study master at the ''Koninklijk Athenaeum'' (Royal Athenaeum) in Antwerp, and in the meantime he graduated with a degree in Literature from the University of Liège. In 1864, he became teacher of Dutch at the Royal Athenaeum of Namur, and in 1866 in Ghent. Finally on 8 July 1876 he was appointed Director of the Plantin-Moretus Museum in Antwerp. The Order of Leopold ( nl, Leopoldsorde, french: Ordre de Léopold, ) is one of the three current Belgian national honorary orders of knighthood. It is the oldest and highest order of Belgium and is named in honour of its founder, King Leopold I. It consists of a military, a maritime and a civil division. The maritime division is only awarded to personnel of the merchant navy, and the military division to military personnel. The decoration was established on 11 July 1832 and is awarded by Royal order.
