Eugène Darcy
Eugène Darcy was a French captain and author during the early 20th century. He was known for his service during the Boxer Rebellion, recounting his experiences about the war in his works with one of them awarding him the Montyon Prize. Early Military career Eugène was born on 10 January 1868 in Constantine, Algeria, the son of annuitant André Louis Damascène and Marie-Hippolyte (née Jarillot) Darcy. He enrolled at the École Navale in 1885. He graduated from the academy on 5 October 1888 and was made a midshipman. He was then promoted to ensign and assigned to the port of Brest, Finistère on 23 July 1891, and was then made assistant of the Captain of the 2nd Fleet Crew Depot within the port. On 1 January 1894 he became part of the crew within the '' Le Terrible'' under Captain Gustave Ferrat. Constantine ( ar, قسنطينة '), also spelled Qacentina or Kasantina, is the capital of Constantine Province in northeastern Algeria. During Roman Empire, Roman times it was called Cirta and was renamed "Constantina" in honor of emperor Constantine the Great. French Battleship Justice
''Justice'' was a pre-dreadnought battleship built for the French Navy in the early 1900s. She was the second member of the , which included three other vessels and was a derivative of the preceding , with the primary difference being the inclusion of a heavier secondary battery. ''Justice'' carried a main battery of four guns, like the ''République'', but mounted ten guns for her secondary armament in place of the guns of the earlier vessels. Like many late pre-dreadnought designs, ''Justice'' was completed after the revolutionary British battleship had entered service, rendering her obsolescent. On entering service, ''Justice'' became the flagship of the 2nd Division of the Mediterranean Squadron, based in Toulon. She immediately began the normal peacetime training routine of squadron and fleet maneuvers and cruises to various ports in the Mediterranean.
