Eugène-François De Block
Eugène-François de Block (14 May 1812, in Geraardsbergen – 23 January 1893, in Antwerp) was a Belgian genre painter, etcher and draftsman. Biography He received his first art education at the Tekenschool in Geraardsbergen. Later, he became a student of the history painter, . After 1834, he lived in Antwerp, where he completed his artistic training with Ferdinand de Braekeleer. At first, he was heavily influenced by De Braekeleer's work but, around 1860, broke free and developed his own, more refined use of color. His early works were mostly humorous in nature, but he later moved into genre scenes, interiors, portraits and even religiously-themed works. One of his students was the German painter, Ludwig von Hagn, who worked with him at his studios in Antwerp and Brussels. Edmond De Schampheleer was another one of his better known students. Royal Museum Of Fine Arts Antwerp
The Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (Dutch: ''Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen'', ''KMSKA'') is a museum in Antwerp, Belgium, founded in 1810, that houses a collection of paintings, sculptures and drawings from the fourteenth to the twentieth centuries. This collection is representative of the artistic production and the taste of art enthusiasts in Antwerp, Belgium and the Northern and Southern Netherlands since the 15th century. The neoclassical building housing the collection is one of the primary landmarks of the Zuid district of Antwerp. The majestic building was designed by Jean-Jacques Winders (1849–1936) and Frans Van Dijk (1853–1939), built beginning in 1884, opened in 1890, and completed in 1894. The Rijksmuseum () is the national museum of the Netherlands dedicated to Dutch arts and history and is located in Amsterdam. Edmond De Schampheleer (21 July 1824, in Brussels – 12 March 1899, in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek) was a Belgian landscape painter and engraver. Biography After completing his studies with Eugène-François de Block in Antwerp, he set himself up as a landscape painter; taking a realistic approach, derived from Théodore Fourmois and the French artists of the Barbizon School. He also combined plein aire techniques with large-scale painting in his studio. He undertook a number of journeys in search of motifs; visiting Bavaria, the Netherlands and France, where he associated with the artists in Barbizon. It would appear, however, that his favorite area was Oosterbeek in Gelderland; a site where many painters congregated. His style increasingly came to resemble that of the 17th century Dutch artists. Ludwig Von Hagn
Ludwig von Hagn (or Louis von Hagn; 23 November 1819 – 15 January 1898) was a German genre painter. Biography He was born in Munich, the son of a businessman Karl von Hagn and his wife Josepha Schwab. His older sister, Charlotte von Hagn, was a well-known actress. After a brief public education, he followed his family's wishes and entered the local Cadet School. Following a visit to Berlin with his sister in 1840, he developed an interest in art. Soon after, he left the Cadet Corps and became a student of the marine painter Wilhelm Krause. Upon returning to Munich, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts, where his instructors included the history painter Clemens von Zimmermann and the landscape painter Albert Zimmermann (no relation). In 1846, he became one of the first artists from Munich to study in Antwerp. His instructors there were Gustave Wappers and Eugène-François de Block.
