Eugenia Sokolova
Evgenia Pavlovna Sokolova (russian: Евгения Павловна Соколова; 1 December 1850 – 2 August 1925) was a Russian dancer and educator. She was one of the most famous ballerinas of her period and later became a famous ballet teacher. She was born in Saint Petersburg (later Leningrad) and studied at the Imperial Ballet Academy there with Marius Petipa, Lev Ivanov and Christian Johansson, graduating in 1869. She subsequently joined the Bolshoi Theatre, Saint Petersburg. She performed the leading roles in Petipa's ballets '' Les Aventures de Pélée'', '' A Midsummer Night's Dream'', '' Roxana, the Beauty of Montenegro'', ''Mlada'', '' Night and Day'', '' The Sacrifices to Cupid'' and ''Pygmalion''. She taught advanced classes at the Mariinsky Theatre from 1902 to 1904 and again from 1920 to 1923. The Mariinsky Theatre ( rus, Мариинский театр, Mariinskiy teatr, also transcribed as Maryinsky or Mariyinsky) is a historic theatre of opera and ballet in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Opened in 1860, it became the preeminent music theatre of late 19th-century Russia, where many of the stage masterpieces of Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov received their premieres. Olga Alexandrovna Spessivtseva (russian: Ольга Алекса́ндровна Спеси́вцева; 16 September 1991) was a Russian ballerina whose stage career spanned from 1913 to 1939. She was one of the finest prima ballerinas of the twentieth century. Lubov Nikolayevna Yegorova (Любовь Николаевна Егорова; 8 August 1880 – 18 August 1972) was a Russian Empire ballerina who danced with the Imperial Ballet and the Ballets Russes. Life and career Lubov Yegorova was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. She studied ballet at the Imperial Theatre School in St. Petersburg with Ekaterina Vazem, Enrico Cecchetti and Anna Johansson. After graduating in 1898, she started work as a coryphée in the Imperial Ballet at Maryinsky Theatre and became a ballerina in 1914. Vera Trefilova (russian: Вера Александровна Трефилова) (b Vladikavkaz, 8 Oct. 1875, d Paris, 11 July 1943) was a Russian dancer and teacher. She studied at the Imperial Ballet School in St Petersburg with Ekaterina Vazem and graduated in 1894. She later studied with Evgenia Sokolova, Nikolai Legat, Catarina Beretta and Enrico Cecchetti.
