Eugene W. Leake
Eugene Walter Leake (July 13, 1877 in Jersey City, New Jersey – August 23, 1959 in New York City) was an American Democratic Party politician from New Jersey who represented the 9th congressional district for one term from 1907 to 1909. Early life and education Leake was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on July 13, 1877. He attended the public schools and Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts, and graduated from New York Law School in 1898. He was admitted to the New Jersey bar in 1898 and commenced practice in Jersey City. In 1908, he was admitted to the New York bar and practiced in New York City. Congress Leake was elected as a Democrat to the Sixtieth Congress, serving in office from March 4, 1907 – March 3, 1909, but was not a candidate for renomination in 1908. Later life After leaving Congress, he was general counsel for the Adams Express Co. from 1927-1932. Cedar Lawn Cemetery is a rural cemetery in Paterson, New Jersey, and is also considered one of the finest Victorian cemeteries in the USA. Cedar Lawn Cemetery officially opened in September 1867, and recorded its first burial on September 27, 1867. Cedar Lawn is located on a multi-acre plot bordered by Lakeview Avenue ( CR 624), Crooks Avenue, I-80, and NJ-20; the plot is also home to the adjacent Calvary Cemetery, a Roman Catholic burial ground. The Political Graveyard is a website and database that catalogues information on more than 277,000 American political figures and political families, along with other information. The name comes from the website's inclusion of burial locations of the deceased (when known). It is also a pun; where bodies are buried can refer to the politicians accused of crimes or touched by scandal. History The site was created in 1996 by Lawrence Kestenbaum, then an academic specialist at Michigan State University, and later on staff at the University of Michigan. Kestenbaum was formerly a county commissioner, and in 2004 was elected to be County Clerk/Register of Deeds of Washtenaw County, Michigan. Eugene "Bud" Leake pronounced "Leaky" (31 August 1911 – 21 January 2005) was a landscape painter and president of the Maryland Institute College of Art. His work was characterized by a consistent commitment to the depiction of the landscape, not following ever-changing trends of contemporary art in the 20th century.
