Eugene Lewis
Eugene Lewis (born 1940) is an American political scientist. One of the leading academic authorities on the concept of political entrepreneurship, Lewis is the author of ''Public Entrepreneurship: Toward a Theory of Bureaucratic Political Power'' (1980). His current research focuses on the role of science and technology in politics and law. He has also published influential works on 'political entrepreneurs' such as Admiral Hyman Rickover. Lewis recently retired from a professorship of political science at New College of Florida. He also served as the school's former Provost (education), provost. Additionally, Lewis is an internationally recognized and critically acclaimed sculptor. The ''Sarasota Herald-Tribune'' is a daily newspaper, located in Sarasota, Florida, founded in 1925 as the ''Sarasota Herald''. History The newspaper was owned by The New York Times Company from 1982 to 2012. It was then owned by Halifax Media Group from 2012 to 2015, when New Media Investment Group acquired Halifax. The ''Herald-Tribune'' was one of the first newspapers in the nation to have an in-house 24-hour cable news channel. SNN was founded in 1995 along with partner Comcast. SNN was sold to private investors in January 2009. The original former headquarters for the newspaper was added to the National Register of Historic Places and still exists, containing the Sarasota Woman's Exchange and several other small businesses; the 1969 replacement building torn down in 2010 to make room for a new Publix. Hyman Rickover
Hyman G. Rickover (January 27, 1900 – July 8, 1986) was an admiral in the U.S. Navy. He directed the original development of naval nuclear propulsion and controlled its operations for three decades as director of the U.S. Naval Reactors office. In addition, he oversaw the development of the Shippingport Atomic Power Station, the world's first commercial pressurized water reactor used for generating electricity. Rickover is also one of four people who have been awarded two Congressional Gold Medals. Rickover is known as the "Father of the Nuclear Navy," and his influence on the Navy and its warships was of such scope that he "may well go down in history as one of the Navy's most important officers." New College Of Florida
New College of Florida is a public liberal arts college in Sarasota, Florida. It was founded in 1960 as a private institution known simply as New College, spent several years merged into the University of South Florida, and in 2001 became an autonomous college, the eleventh independent school of the State University System of Florida. Upon achieving independence, the school adopted its current name: New College of Florida. The school is distinguished by its unusual "contract system," in which students are given written evaluations instead of grades and agree to semester-long contracts in which a certain number of classes must be passed.
