Eugene Hanley
Eugene Hanley (April 2, 1926 - April 20, 2009) was an American labor leader in New York City, and an associate of the Genovese crime family. Hanley took over as President of Local 257 of the New York City District Council of Carpenters for his father-in-law, a Genovese mobster named Will Graziano. Hanley and Local Vice-President Attilio Bitondo extorted building contractors operating in Manhattan in conjunction with Local shop steward Carmine Fiore, a Gambino crime family soldier, and other organized crime figures linked to the Gambino, Genovese and Colombo crime families. The men ordered beatings for those contractors who refused to back in, but typically, violence wasn't needed. In 1987, Hanley, Bitondo and other high-ranking officials of the N.Y.C. A covert listening device, more commonly known as a bug or a wire, is usually a combination of a miniature radio transmitter with a microphone. The use of bugs, called bugging, or wiretapping is a common technique in surveillance, espionage and police investigations. Self-contained electronic covert listening devices came into common use with intelligence agencies in the 1950s, when technology allowed for a suitable transmitter to be built into a relatively small package. By 1956, the US Central Intelligence Agency was designing and building "Surveillance Transmitters" that employed transistors, which greatly reduced the size and power consumption. The Independent Media Center, better known as Indymedia, is an open publishing network of activist journalist collectives that report on political and social issues. Following beginnings during the 1999 Carnival Against Capital and 1999 Seattle WTO protests, Indymedia became closely associated with the global justice movement. The Indymedia network extended internationally in the early 2000s with volunteer-run centers that shared software and a common format with a newswire and columns. Anthony "Sonny" Ciccone (born July 19, 1934) is a New York City mobster and a Caporegime, captain of the Gambino crime family. For over twenty years, Ciccone controlled the Staten Island and Brooklyn waterfronts. Biography On December 19, 1991, in a consent decree to a civil suit brought by the federal government, Ciccone agreed to resign his posts with Local 1841 of the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA). This decree also barred Ciccone from participating in any ILA or waterfront activities. From 2000 until 2001, Ciccone helped direct a Gambino bookmaking racket in Costa Rica. Anthony M. Scotto (; May 10, 1934 – August 21, 2021) was an American New York mobster and labor union racketeer in the Gambino crime family who ruled the Brooklyn waterfront. Early life Scotto grew up in the Red Hook Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn. His father worked for the New York City Department of Sanitation and was a union organizer.
