Eugene G. Groves
Eugene G. Groves (1883–1967) was an American architect of Denver, Colorado. He was responsible for the design of civic and educational facilities throughout Colorado over a career spanning five decades. Early life Eugene Gregory Groves was born on February 9, 1883, at Dana, Indiana, to Martha (Trobridge) and Thomas Jefferson Groves. He attended school at the Y.M.C.A. in Indianapolis, Indiana. There was a Y.M.C.A. Night School with a commercial department in Indianapolis. He was awarded a scholarship to Harvard University and attended the school from 1909 to 1911. In 1918, he married Jessie B. Scott in New York City. They were divorced on April 18, 1931, in Jefferson County, Colorado. Career He came to Denver in 1914 due to poor health. He designed numerous buildings and additions for Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins from the 1920s through 1950. Nordlund House
Nordlund House is a historic house in central Denver, Colorado. Designed by Eugene G. Groves, it is a seven-level building and 3,000 square foot dwelling. The exterior is precast and poured-in-place, reinforced concrete, a process that was patented by Groves and made by his construction company. The exterior walls have rounded corners and are finished in stucco. There is a rooftop terrace and a domed living room roof. Decorative elements include wrought iron and red glazed tiles. Concrete is used within the interior of the house, including the built-in seating in the kitchen, kitchen countertops and cabinet faces, and bookcases. Fort Morgan is the home rule municipality city that is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Morgan County, Colorado, United States. Public Works Administration
The Public Works Administration (PWA), part of the New Deal of 1933, was a large-scale public works construction agency in the United States headed by Secretary of the Interior Harold L. Ickes. It was created by the National Industrial Recovery Act in June 1933 in response to the Great Depression. It built large-scale public works such as dams, bridges, hospitals, and schools. Its goals were to spend $3.3 billion (about $10 per person in the U.S.) in the first year, and $6 billion (about $18 dollars per person in the U.S.) in all, to supply employment, stabilize buying power, and help revive the economy. Most of the spending came in two waves in 1933–1935 and again in 1938.
