Euabalong West
Euabalong West is a small town on the Broken Hill Railway Line that was founded to serve the residents of nearby Euabalong, which was a crossing point for the Lachlan River founded in the 1870s. The town has approximately 70 people, and its main industries are cropping, grazing, and railway-related employment. Euabalong West railway station opened in 1919 and is served by the weekly ''Indian Pacific'' train between Sydney and Perth. NSW TrainLink's weekly ''Outback Xplorer'' also serves the town. Broken Hill Railway Line, New South Wales
The Broken Hill railway line is now part of the transcontinental railway from Sydney to Perth. New South Wales's first line opened from Sydney to Parramatta Junction (near Granville Station) in 1855 and was extended as the Main Western line in stages to Orange in 1877. The Broken Hill line branched off the Main Western line at Orange and was opened to Molong in 1885. It was extended to Parkes and Forbes in 1893. This line was extended from Parkes to Bogan Gate and Condobolin in 1898 and Roto and Trida in 1919. An isolated section of line was also opened from Menindee to the town of Broken Hill in 1919, which met the gauge Silverton Tramway at a break-of-gauge. At Cockburn, the Silverton Tramway connected with the South Australian Railways system to Port Pirie and via a break of gauge at Terowie to Adelaide. Euabalong, New South Wales
Euabalong is a town in western New South Wales, Australia. The town is in the Cobar Shire local government area and on the Lachlan River, west of the state capital, Sydney, and 27 kilometres from Lake Cargelligo. At the 2016 census, Euabalong had a population of 188. The town is served by a railway station on the Broken Hill railway line at nearby Euabalong West. History The town was surveyed by 1873 and town lots were sold in October that year. Lachlan River
The Lachlan River is an intermittent river that is part of the Murrumbidgee catchment within the Murray–Darling basin, located in the Southern Tablelands, Central West, and Riverina regions of New South Wales, Australia. The Lachlan River is connected to the Murray–Darling basin only when both the Lachlan and Murrumbidgee Rivers are in flood. The Outback Xplorer is an Australian passenger train service operated by NSW TrainLink between Sydney and Broken Hill via the Main Western line.
