Etzel (mountain)
The Etzel is a mountain on the south side of Lake Zürich in Switzerland. Although its elevation, of , is relatively modest, it is notable for its aspect when viewed from the lake and its surroundings. It is also well known for its views over the lake, and there is a mountain inn at the summit. The mountain forms part of the Schwyzer Alps mountain range, and lies in the canton of Schwyz. Its summit and slopes are divided between the municipalities of Feusisberg, which lies to the north, and Einsiedeln Einsiedeln () is a municipality and district in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland known for its monastery, the Benedictine Einsiedeln Abbey, established in the 10th century. Ufenau is an island located, with the neighbouring island of Lützelau, in Lake Zürich in Switzerland between Freienbach ( away) and Rapperswil ( away). Schwyzer Alps
The Schwyz Alps (german: Schwyzer Alpen) are a mountain range in Switzerland. They form part of the North-Eastern Swiss Alps and are bordered by the Glarus Alps to the east, the Appenzell Alps to the north-east, the Emmental Alps in the west, and the Uri Alps to the south-west. The Klausen Pass is the highest point between the Schwyz Alps and the Glarus Alps. The Schwyzer Alps extend beyond the boundaries of the canton of Schwyz, including parts of the cantons of Glarus, Luzern, Uri and Zug. Feusisberg is a municipality in Höfe District in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. History Feusisberg is first mentioned in the 13th Century as ''Berg'' and ''Uffenberg''. In the 16th Century it was known as ''Fessisskilch'' and in 1590 it was mentioned as ''Föussisberg''. Geography Feusisberg has an area, , of . Of this area, 48.8% is used for agricultural purposes, while 41.2% is forested. Einsiedeln
Einsiedeln () is a municipality and district in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland known for its monastery, the Benedictine Einsiedeln Abbey, established in the 10th century. History Early history There was no permanent settlement in the area prior to the early medieval period, but numerous artefacts left by prehistoric hunters, dated to the Mesolithic to Bronze Age were recovered. The original " hermitage" is associated with St. Meinrad, a Benedictine monk family of the Counts of Hohenzollern. According to legend, Meinrad lived on the slopes of Mt. Etzel from 835 until his death in 861. During the next eighty years Saint Meinrad's hermitage was never without one or more hermits emulating his example.
