Ettore Cadorin
Ettore Cadorin (March 1, 1876June 18, 1952) was an American sculptor and teacher born in Venice. His father Vincenzo Cadorin was a woodcarver and his first teacher. He went on to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice where he studied with Antonio Dal Zòtto (1841–1918), followed by further studies in Rome and Paris. Arriving in the United States in 1915, Cadorin first settled in New York City, securing a position as a lecturer in Italian at Columbia University. In 1925 he relocated to California, where he remained for the rest of his life. While living in California he was selected to produce his best known work in the United States, the 1930 bronze statue of Junipero Serra located in the National Statuary Hall Collection in the Capitol Building, Washington, D.C., one of the two statues representing his adopted home state. Marian Brackenridge
Marian Brackenridge (April 16, 1903, Buffalo, New York – March 17, 1999, Sonoma, California) was an American sculptor known for her portrait busts, bas-reliefs and religious works. Bendigo Art Gallery is an Australian art gallery located in Bendigo, Victoria. It is one of the oldest and largest regional art galleries. History The gallery was founded in 1887. The gallery's collection was first housed in the former Bendigo Volunteer Rifle's room, converted into an exhibition space by Bendigo architect William Charles Vahland (1828–1915) in 1890 and renamed Bolton Court. In 1897 it was extended with Drury Court, designed by local architect William Beebe. In 1962 the gallery was again extended with office space and additional exhibition spaces, as well as a new entrance. National Sculpture Society
Founded in 1893, the National Sculpture Society (NSS) was the first organization of professional sculptors formed in the United States. The purpose of the organization was to promote the welfare of American sculptors, although its founding members included several renowned architects. The founding members included such well known figures of the day as Daniel Chester French, Augustus St. Gaudens, Richard Morris Hunt, and Stanford White as well as sculptors less familiar today, such as Herbert Adams, Paul W. Bartlett, Karl Bitter, J. Massey Rhind, Attilio Piccirilli, and John Quincy Adams Ward—who served as the first president for the society. Woodlawn Cemetery is one of the largest cemeteries in New York City and a designated National Historic Landmark.
