Ethosheia Hylton
Ethosheia Hylton is an English screenwriter and film director. She is known for her work on In The Silence (short film) and Dolapo Is Fine, Dọlápọ̀ Is Fine (short film) which won the HBO Short Film Competition at American Black Film Festival. In 2018 Ethosheia was presented the inaugural European Academy Gold Fellowship For Women. The award, sponsored by Swarovski, offered a year-long mentorship scheme from the Academy. Driven by stories from untold voices and about community and culture, Ethosheia's work Brixton Rock, an adaptation of author Alex Wheatle's book of the same name, is being turned into a feature film. She is currently directing Ackley Bridge (TV Series on Channel 4). ''Dọlápọ̀ Is Fine'' is a live action short film directed by Ethosheia Hylton and written by Joan Iyiola and Chibundu Onuzo in 2020. In 2020, it won the HBO Short Film Competition at American Black Film Festival. This short film was co-produced by Joan Iyiola, Joe Bell and Chibundu Onuzo, and executive produced by Amy Dowd and Elisabeth Hopper. Alex Wheatle
Alex Alphonso Wheatle MBE (Order of the British Empire), MBE (born 3 January 1963) is a British novelist, who was sentence (law), sentenced to a term of imprisonment after the 1981 Brixton riot in London. Biography Born in 1963 in London to Jamaican parents, Wheatle spent much of his childhood in a Shirley Oaks#Shirley Oaks Children's Home, Shirley Oaks Children's Home. At the age of 16, he was a founding member of the Crucial Rocker sound system; his disc jockey, DJ name was Yardman Irie. He wrote lyrics about everyday life in Brixton, south London. By 1980, Wheatle was living in a social services hostel in Brixton, and he participated in the 1981 Brixton riots and their aftermath. While serving his resulting sentence, he read authors such as Chester Himes, Richard Wright (author), Richard Wright, C. L. R. James and John Steinbeck.
