Ethnikos Piraeus B.C.
Ethnikos Piraeus B.C. is the basketball department of the Greek multi-sport club of Ethnikos Piraeus or Ethnikos OFPF (''National Club of Fans of Piraeus and Phalerum''). It is based in Piraeus, which is located in the Athens urban area, and its home is the Panagiotis Salpeas Gymnasium. In the current season, Ethnikos Piraeus plays in the second division of the Greek basketball league system. The team's colours are white and blue. History During the decade of the 1970s, Ethnikos played in the Beta Ethniki (second national league), and came close to reaching promotion to the top-tier level A Ethniki (first national league). Georgios Kalafatakis (alternate spelling: Giorgos) (born November 9, 1958; el, Γιώργος Καλαφατάκης) is a Greek professional basketball coach and a retired professional basketball player. Playing career Kalafatakis played club basketball with the Greek clubs Ampelokipoi, Ionikos Nikaias, and Apollon Nea Smyrni. He became the first Greek player to ever make a 3 point shot in an official game, while he was a member of Ionikos Nikaias. Perama ( el, Πέραμα) is a suburb of Piraeus. It is part of Athens urban area and belogs to the Piraeus regional unit. Greek Basket League
The Greek Basket League (GBL), often also referred to as the Greek A1 Basketball League, or Greek Basketball Championship (originally called Panhellenic Basketball Championship), and also known as the Stoiximan Basket League for sponsorship reasons, is the first tier level professional basketball league in Greece. It is run by HEBA ( el, ΕΣΑΚΕ, link=no), under the legal authority of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.). It is the highest-tier level of the Greek league system.
