Ethel Sylvia Wilson
Ethel Sybella Wilson (February 13, 1902 - December 8, 1983) was a labour activist and a politician from Alberta, Canada. She served on Edmonton City Council from 1952 to 1966 and as Social Credit Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta (MLA) from 1959 to 1971. She served as a cabinet minister in the Social Credit governments of Ernest Manning and Harry Strom from 1962 to 1971. Early life Ethel Sybella Knight was born on February 13, 1902, on a farm just outside Sunnyside, Alberta. She took her post secondary education at Edmonton Business College. Wilson married David Wilson, with whom she had three children. The couple separated in 1937. After separating from her husband, Wilson entered the work force as a seamstress for Burns Meats, where she worked until her retirement in 1962. Sunnyside is an innercity community in Calgary, Alberta located on the north side of the Bow River immediately adjacent to Calgary's downtown. Kenneth Paproski
Kenneth Robert Howard Paproski (January 17, 1931 – January 25, 2007) is a former provincial level politician and medical doctor from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1971 to 1982. Early life Paproski graduated from the University of Alberta with a medical degree. Political career Paproski ran as a Progressive Conservative candidate in the 1971 Alberta general election. He defeated Social Credit incumbent Ethel Wilson. He ran for a second term in office in the 1975 Alberta general election. His majority was reduced but he defeated two other candidates with a comfortable margin. He ran for a third term in the 1979 Alberta general election, in that election he defeated future New Democrat MLA Alex McEachern and former Social Credit national leader Martin Hattersley. 1971 Alberta General Election
The 1971 Alberta general election was the seventeenth general election held in the Province of Alberta, Canada on August 30, 1971, to elect seventy-five members of the Alberta Legislature to form the 17th Alberta Legislative Assembly. The Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta led by Peter Lougheed won 49 of 75 seats with 46.4 per cent of the popular vote in the new legislature to form a majority government. Lougheed's Progressive Conservatives defeated the incumbent Social Credit Party led by Premier Harry Strom who won 25 seats with 41.1 per cent of the popular vote. The 1971 election ushered in the Progressive Conservative dynasty in Alberta, which continuously held a majority government for 44 years from 1971 to 2015. Gordon Wright (politician)
Gordon Samuel Dales Wright (June 28, 1927 – October 18, 1990) was a lawyer who served as a Crown Prosecutor for the Attorney General's office, and a politician who served in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1986 until his death in 1990.
